Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

My course is B.A. (Hons.) Economics. The curriculum seems pretty outdated to me. I don't think it's really relevant in today's day and age but yet the basics are the same. The theories are the same. I feel more focus should be on practical training. For example sometimes the professors give meaningless assignments which has not relevance. In place of that they can provide the assignment which will have some real world implications and make a person job ready. The exams for economics are pretty hard as compared to other courses. The average cgpa is also low as compared to most of the courses. Changes in curriculum can have postive changes in the moral of a student. While selecting the course it's not clear what can we expect from the course. I feel that a student should have full idea of what the course is all about while selecting a college course because it will be with you for you whole life. The university need to update their curriculum and the maine focus should be on practicals.

Internships Opportunities

1.5

College doesn't provide intership opportunities at all. If someone wants to do any internship they have to find it on their own and it gets very hard to land a good intership at times as they require skilled personnel and because of the outdated curriculum students have no skills whatsoever. Some teachers give good projects which help the student gain some real world skill and enhance their resume. Other than that societies play a vital role in providing interships and real world experiences to the students. Societies help students to learn how the real world functions and what is expected out of you as an employee. This experience comes handy when one is going to apply for any internship. These societies runs some kind of campaigns at times which serves there purpose and help the students with their skills as well. College sometimes offer intership and apprenticeship course instead of skilled enhancement courses for real world experiences but student has to find interships themselves

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees is pretty less as compared to most of the colleges offering the same course( other than Delhi University). My fees for 1st year was 12975 rupees and it is expected to increase which I feel is not fair because not all can afford to go to the college and if there's a fee hike then it becomes difficult for some people. Fee structure is different for different categories. There's is no scholarship but there is some kind of a fee concession. I am not much familiar with the fee concession policy of our college. There's no registeration fee. Or admission fee or development fee. But there's exam fee which one has to pay before every semester exams. It around 1000 for every semester. It depends upon the course and the subjects one has opted for. My batchmates who are from other categories have different fee. General category people have more fee with SC and ST people have very less fee as compared to general category. The fee hikes almost every year which gets frustrating at times.

Campus Life

3

There's a cultural fest happening every year in the college. The name of the fest is renaissance fest. It happens around the months of March and April. It is usually a two day event. Comprising of dj night and artist night with a lot of food stall, games and sponser stalls. Library has books on almost all domains with this the accessibility is also very good. The library is in a different 3 floor building with different sections on different floors and there are reading halls in every floor of the building. Most of the classrooms have projectors but some of the classrooms wall are not painted properly. Some of the classroom have Aur conditioners also but most of them don't. There's a sports meet happening every year consisting of multiple sports like athletics, cricket, football etc. The ground is very big but it is not maintained properly. There's always water filled on the ground which makes it unplayable. There are multiple societies in the college which organizes their own events.

Admission

The admission process is very elaborate. First one have to take the CUET exam which is organised by National testing agency every year. Then after the result the admission process begins. After filling out your details and providing with the necessary documents the second step begins which involves preparing a preference list. This is the most important step in the process. Then the cutoffs gets out for different categories. Cutoff for general category is always the highest as it is the non reserved category. Then there are multiple rounds for admission ( generally 3-4) after that one college is allotted then we have to submit the necessary documents. If one has opted for any reservation benefits then they have to submit the caste certificate or the necessary documentation as a proof that they belong to a certain category. After the documents gets verified the admission process is over. The students is part of the institution. The admission process is usually same for all DU college.

Faculty

4

The faculty to student ratio is pretty average its not very great but it's not too bad. But the faculty that we have at Kirorimal College of Delhi University is highly qualified in their domains. For example in economics department most of the teachers have done their doctrate in their respective domain. The teaching methods differ from teacher to teacher. Some teach in a very conventional way but some of the teachers have very unique teaching methods at times which amazes me everytime. The mentorship that teachers provide is great but some teachers are so bad they don't even listen to any student. They do what they feel like. Some teachers cancel classes without even informing the students and yet they expect the students to be on time every day. Interaction with teachers are mostly great. They are able to guide the students in whatever way they are struggling. Most of the teachers are approachable. Some of the teachers are so sweet they'll give you some extra advice which you needed.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
