Remarks
The management is good. Overall, Amritapuri is a very good choice for any student who is interested in making things because of its extracurricular presence and ambient atmosphere. If one makes the best of his or her time, he or she can literally do wonders.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is pretty well organised. Being the first year, so far the curriculum has been fair and relevant. There are other subjects as well, like Cultural Education which focuses on Indian history and India's contributions to the world. The subjects covered are all standard, and the syllabus is established semester wise on the official website.
Placement Experience
Amrita secures 100% placements every year. Regarding internships, I have got the Google Summer of Code (2019) as a Student Developer for KDE. One of my close friends was also able to get an internship at a startup in his first semester in Bengaluru for 2 months. Both of these were made possible by FOSS@Amrita, which is a student community of open source enthusiasts. It was established 10 years ago, and ever since has been mentoring students to achieve excellence in the technical field. It has over 60 GSoCs so far, with countless students sent to international conferences, competitions, and internships.
College Events
All major cultural events are celebrated vividly (Diwali, Holi, Ugadhi, Onam, etc) and the college hosts its fest annually called Vidyut. Vidyut was conducted this year (2019) and it was a great hit, a 3 days fest with many popular bands coming over and having performances.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The first year fees totally were in total 3 lakhs, with 2.4 lakhs as tuition fee and rest of it as hostel and mess fees. However, if you get the scholarship, the amount is reduced significantly (scholarship is present for 90%, 75% and 50% decided based on your rank)
Fees and Financial Aid
I availed for an education loan and I got it with ease. I received a scholarship from the college side (90% of tuition fee was pardoned) based on my rank in AEEE.
Campus Life
Amritapuri houses FOSS@Amrita and Team bi0s, which are one of India's leading computer science clubs. FOSS@Amrita was founded by Vipin sir and has had over 60 students selected for Google Summer of Code in more than the past 10 years of its establishment. It is a student-driven club, seniors mentor juniors to achieve excellence. AmFOSS has a great alumni network, with all of its alumni placed in good companies/working or researching abroad. Being the first year, I have been selected as a Student Developer at KDE as part of the Google summer of code. The technical exposure you get here is unmatched. Team bi0s are India's number one cybersecurity team, ranked 35 last year in Capture the Flag contests. It has students doing well in the realm of cybersecurity and hacking - it conducts contests like InCTF and nationwide competition intended for schools called InCTF-J. Bi0s has had students sent abroad for research and career prospects every year, apart from international conferences and cybersecurity competitions.
Hostel Facilities
About 60,000 rupees. The hostel is decent, 4 per room. The atmosphere is vivid and peaceful around, far from senior's hostel so there is no fear of ragging or such (which is anyway nonexistent and the management is very strict regarding it) The mess food is okayish.
Alumni/Alumna
Seniors are very helpful, through FOSS@Amrita and Team bi0s I have access to a great alumni network working and researching abroad.
Admission
The admission process is through the AEEE examination conducted throughout India. I got a rank of 5.6k with State quota, I was easily able to get a seat here. The counseling process happens at every campus, and we are free to choose to go for counseling to any one of them. It usually happens rank wise on consecutive days.
Faculty
The faculty are friendly and approachable. Many of them are PhDs and pass out from IITs, although many of them are quite humble. The CS department is especially strong. The subjects covered are taught well, the faculty can be approached by anyone at any time.
