What Students Say
Likes
- Environment is the biggest pro for sure.
- Hostels are spacious, these include rooms with balconies and all the basic facilities like wifi because some areas have bad network coverage. No fans, though you won't be needing them much here.
- Campus is beautiful, with good infrastructure.
Dislikes
- Remote location far from any major city.
- Temperatures can often reach single digits in winters, so not for people not used to cold .
- You'll be on your own to get through, not much help from the faculty.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Electrical Engineering as it was what i was most familiar with. This course is not easy as there is a lot to cover, but the opportunities are worth it for later. One can prepare for GATE, PSU's or any other govt exam after graduating as an electrical engineer. And being a core and evergreen branch means you will not be losing your job anytime soon. The future of Electrical Engineers is also bright with the world moving towards Electic Vehicles and Renewable energy sources. Remember it will not be easy but hopefully worth it..
Internships Opportunities
Future is good if your present is working for it. Don't expect a good job to fall in your hands without any efforts. Internships are available in other colleges and IITs, and also in companies though they are rarely paid, some even requiring fees. Though you can work on your projects too as labs are accesible, but after permission only. There are societies like TSR (Team Savitar Racing) which allow you to use lab for projects etc if you have a membership.
Placement Experience
I have not graduated so can't explain the placement scenario, but the records are average, about 4-6 lacs for the most. The companies that visit include TCS, Wipro, BEL, etc. Highest package recently was about 97 lacs though its rare. I personally have plans for higher studies so I am preparing for GATE, and apply for other govt jobs.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fee structure (semester wise) is: Tution fee : 32,280 Hostel & mess fee: 16,000 + 2,480 This would make your per semester fee (including hostel fee) to be around 50,000. The exact amount varies between odd and even semesters (for odd sems the institue fee is 31,035 instead of 32,280 and hostel fee is 1,980 instead of 2,480). Totaling about 4 lakhs for the full course of 4 yrs (8 sems). First I paid 10,000 + some counselling fee, out of which 10k were added to the fee for first semester at the time of registration. *Scholarship covers the tution fee but the mess and hostel fee are not covered.
Campus Life
The campus life is what you make of it, and there are a bunch of events at regular intervals. Goonj and Josh are the main fests here. And there are many more smaller events for those who wanna put themselves in limelight. The library is also good, if you wanna issue books for studies. It is free, requiring only the library card. One can issue 3 at a time though. The classes are pretty neat and spacious. Lecture rooms have projectors and smart bords alog with your favourite white boards where most stuff happens. No fans, because you won't need them (mostly). Clubs are present for you to be part of like cultural, art and craft, Drishtikon (Photo/videography), etc for your niche..
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are Nice and clean (only if you keep them that way). There is regular cleaning of halls and washrooms but the rooms are your responsibility. Every room has 3-4 beds depending on hostel, some even come with single set though not for first few years. There are outlets and Tubelights for every roommate, with a set of bed frame, chair and table with drawers and a cupboard. There are no fans because these are rarely required as temprature is relatively cool. Rooms come with balconies although some hostels don't have them. Food is decent enough, you get you meals at 8-9:00 am Breakfast 1-2:00 pm Lunch 5-6:00 pm Snacks and tea 8-9:00 pm Dinner There are restaurants and stall close by, or you can order and get delivered to your hostels. Fee is cheap around 36000 per yr or about 3000 per month. Take that PGs. You can rent PGs though I would not recommend as hostels are enough for most.
Admission
I didn't choose this or any other college when I took JEE exam which I didn't study much for. I just did it without much thought. Though when it came to choosing my college finally during counselling this was my choice as it has good infrastructure and facilities which were not upto the mark in other simmilar colleges. It being close to my home was also helpful. I applied for other colleges too, but I fell short in cutoffs at my rank (~4lacs). Though I was not sad or anything because I wasn't hoping for something else anyway. The admission process was simple and easy as everthing was online after covid (counselling and application) I only came for Registration and document verification, after which I paid the fee and that was it. The admission was strictly on merit basis of JEE rank. There were no major hiccups in the process, it went pretty smoothly.
Faculty
A typical class is of 50-70 students. Faculty is good enough, though you need to put effort on your side if you aim to crack something major. As usual every teacher is different, and you need to get along every one of them. Study hard on your own just don't expect much from the faculty. Exams are not easy, but regular study or last night crams(if you can) are enough for those who wanna just pass. To score good you have to study regularly which can get a bit difficult when you have classed 9 to 4, leaving not much time for other stuff, so managing time is required. The course is decided by Uttrakhand Technical University, Dehradun. All books and material are available in the library, and can be issued without any charges.
