Course Curriculum Overview

4

As my subject in the UG was economics Hons. I was at first sceptical to choose this course in this college but as i attended the classes it proved to be one of my best decisions so far. The faculty is friendly, they have new methods to trach to students every time one or the other comes up with a problem. The placement from this course in the college is also among the highest. The corporate jobs are common among students. The course is designed im such a way that it helps students getting jobs after college easier.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

The internships opportunities provided are basically social or corporate. The legal bodies approach these students to volunteer. The interships opportunity in United Nations, NGOs, fellowship programs with stipends ate provided

Placement Experience

4.5

The students start getting placements from the second year of the college. The placement is quite high. The highest in my batch was 18 LPA. Various companies like Accenture, take parts. Students also engage in fellowship programs as offered by the college. Most of the students choose to go abroad for further studies. The ones who stay prefer Delhi School Of Economics(DSE) for further studies. I pursued masters in other field after getting out of the course.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees structure od Miranda house is very apt and affordable as to the campus, facility and faculty provided. The yearly fees varies for each catagory of students depending on general, obc, SC or ST. It's a women's college that offers various courses like UG, PG, foreign language courses. The yearly fees varies from 44000 for UG courses to 48000. The SC/ST students whose parents are exempted from paying taxes do not pay tution fees. The first installment of hostel fees for first year students is 32000 and second installment is 26000 which may vary in lime with inflation. Financial assistance is also provided to needy students on providing the valid documents. The merit scholarships is also provided to students of each year. NSP scholarship is most common among students.

Campus Life

5

The life of students in the campus is a dream come true whether we talk of students they meet, seminars they attend, library they ait in or the canteen they eat in. The most common among the festival is fest named 'Tempest' in this college. It is basically organised in yhe months of February or March by the students itself. It is a three days long event that consists of seminars, debated, quizez, dance, singing, mela followed by concert and DJ night in the third day. Students also enroll from students sports quota. The NCC society is very active. The campus has vollyball group, basketball ball court, gym area, football ground and may more indoor games. The various societies like Tanzz(dancing society), placement cell, debating societies , Enabling society, NSS etc help students in day today life.

Admission

I applied for Economics Hons in LSR, DU where i cleared the cutoff but the document verification was extremely strict. They would not allow any sort of mistake or leniency due to which i couldn't get in. Even though i cleared the cutoff couldn't get in. In my second cut-off, i applied for the same course in Hansraj and then in Miranda house. The later was linient in document verification, they listened to the problems that a faced during the certificate collection from my home town since it was an offline mode. They provided me with time after taking understanding for the same and then i was enrolled in as a provisional admission. I provided the documents and git in. As in Hansraj, it is a co- ed college so i didn't choose it. Also the faulty is better in Miranda house as per the reviews of ex-students.

Faculty

4.5

The exams are held once a year with two internal assessments and practical marks. The questions are such that it is easy to pass but tough to gain merit. The faculty members are supportive to students to achieve their endeavours. They work as guide and as a friend as students hail from different parts of the country. The ratio of faculty to students is 1:30. There are small tutor groups containing 5 students and 1 teacher made for student so they can share their problems.

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
