Course Curriculum Overview

3

The curriculum is extremely vast as it includes literature from different time periods as well as from different parts of the world. This gives many layers to the student's comprehension. This curriculum promotes research and analytical skills, and was a good choice to prepare for future academc pursuits. There is no practical teaching involved, it is all theory. That is one point that could be improved. University exams would be held at the end of every semester (6 months), and internal exams are held during the middle of the semester. The difficulty is not hard, the teachers prepare the students well and the question paper is all from the course curriculum.

Placement Experience

1

Placement cell exists but is not very active. Students become eligible in the 3rd year of study. There are no campus visits by comapnies. Most of the students go on for higher studies, instead of getting placed. My plans included doing a Master's degree from open university, while getting work experience.

Fees and Financial Aid

Took 40,000 at the time of admission as University charges. It was added to the yearly fee as well, and after paying almost 56,200, the total yearly amount came out to be almost 1,00,000. After the 1st year, all the 1,00,000 went straight to the college. This is the fee structure for the General category with no benefits. No scholarships available.

Campus Life

2.5

Small social events keep popping up throughout the year. Festivals are held usually during spring months. Apart from college-wide fests, department-specific fests happen as well. Like literary fests, and technical fests. There are 4 libraries on campus, and there is a wide range of fiction and research books available. The facilities in the classrooms are top tier. Not much sport options are offered on campus. There are many student-run clubs, but they are not very active.

Admission

I applied to Delhi University as well. I got a confirmed admission in Vivekananda College of DU in the BA Programme course for English and French. I chose VIPS over DU because here I got an Honours course, whereas I did not get an Honours course in DU. So even though the fee is much higher, I went for VIPS. I did not reach the cutoff for English Honours in DU, that's why I got rejected. The DU cutoff was 92% whereas I had 89% (best of 4). The admission process includes giving the IPU-CET exam. The admission experience was exremely smooth, with all the faculty pitching in to make it seamless.

Faculty

4.5

There are many teachers at the college, most of them approachable and extremely helpful. I especially liked Anshu Gagal, an Assistant Profesor in the English Department. She makes her classes fun and friendly, and her concepts are easy to understand. Other good teachers include the Dean of the department, Dr. Salonee Priya, and Dr. Meetu Bhatia. I didn't like Dr. Bhawna Arora's lessons very much because they get slow and monotonous. Exams are held at the end of every semester (6 months). Much shorter internal exams take place in the college itself, in the middle of the semester. The curriculum is extremely relevant to the exams, and the teachers prepare the students well. Only a handful of students fail to clear the exams, which are then held next time.

The course curriculum is a bit too theoretical and less practical. The exams in the college takes places every month which are seasonals and are for internal marking and then we have semester exams in every 6 months which accounts for the external marking.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
