What Students Say
Likes
- NIT SILCHAR has a beautiful campus and there's a lot of greenery.
- The faculties and peer groups are nice here.
- The sports and cultural stuff are very good, and the fests are awesome.
Dislikes
- Inefficient lab equipment which hampers proper experiments
- The pressure here is immense, although that must be true for all top tier colleges
- The campus location is quite remote, which sometimes hinders campus placement opportunities
Course Curriculum Overview
It's very relevant as well as quite cumbersome. There are a lot of important topics which can't be covered within the span of a single semester but the professors and students somehow manage that stuff. We're engineers afterall!!
Internships Opportunities
The internships mainly provided by Optum, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, UBS, Cisco, Accenture etc. The stipends ranged from 40k a month to 1.3L per month.. depending upon the company and intern role. The procedure is mainly an OA round, followed by interview round and lastly resume shortlisting or GD.
Placement Experience
Campus placement eligibility begins from the seventh semester. Many companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Oracle, Flipkart, Goldman Sachs etc. Our branch average lies around 14-15 Lpa. And usually above 90% students get placed. I myself am planning to sit for placements as I don't wanna pursue higher studies.
Fees and Financial Aid
I pay around 40k per semester here, which roughly translates to 80k+ a year. This is for people like me who have family income less than 1 LPA. Usually students spend 1 lacs per semester if they belong from the general category or family income greater than 8 lacs. I've applied for NSP Scholarship and through that, I receive an amount of 20k per year
Campus Life
We have two main fests, cultural fest called INCANDESCENCE and a tech fest known as TECNOESIS. A big budget is released for the proper conduction of both these events which usually goes around for an entire week. The classroom facilities and other stuff is also good
Hostel Facilities
The hostels are mostly 2 or 3 seaters, and the quality of the rooms are decent enough. The mess food is okayish, sometimes good even. Hostel registration is done once every year at the same time semester registration is done. It is quite affordable, and same for all the students. Basically the BHM charges around 50k per year for hostel facilities
Admission
Mostly because of home state. Also because it was the second best govt. engineering college in the entire northeast after IIT Guwahati. Plus the placement stats helped in shaping that decision quite a lot.
Faculty
The faculties here are usually nice and cooperative, although there are exceptions. I've mostly had positive experiences throughout my college life regarding faculties. They like helping students and the atmosphere thus remains quite nice.
