Course Curriculum Overview

5

I would rate the course 9.5/10 as it is a best course and by choosing this course, I have improved my communication skills and I have meet a lot of officers in marine industry because of this course and this college. I would like to suggest to introduce more practical knowledge and work in the course because practical knowledge is much needed in maritime industry. The timing of exams are good and sufficient time is provided for the preparation of semester examination.

Internships Opportunities

3

There are numerous internship offered in the college they are as follows: INS Shivaji Manglore Port intership etc. These interships are unpaid, but we get a lot of things to learn also certificate is provided in these interships.

Placement Experience

5

From the 4th semester, the students are eligible for campus placement, also companies start recruitment from the 4th semester itself. Till now in my batch companies like Fleet management, WSM, Chevron, NYK have visited and recruited 60 students approx in 250 students. Highest package offered is 1100 dollar per month and average package is 500 dollar per month. Almost 90% students get placement till 8th semester from the college. My plans are to get placed in a good company and sail till I become a cheif engineer.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yearly fees for BTech marine engineering in IMU Kolkata Campus is ?2,25,000. Tuition fees per year is ?2,25,000 and caution fees is ?20,000 (one time) which is to be paid during admission. There is no admission fees specifically, you only have to pay the semester fees during the admission. There is no development fees because it's an government college. Examination fees per semester is ?500 per subject. Every student has the similar fees, there is no category in fees. There is only one scholarship provided by the college i.e DMET Alumani Scholarship which is based on merit and family annual income.

Campus Life

5

My overall experience with campus life is very good, there is anual fest of our college that is Tempest Asia's biggest marine fest which happens in the month of February every year. The accessibility of books and journals are very good in college library, the college library has a large variety of books and journals. The facilities are very good and the classrooms are also well maintained and have centralised ac and smart board in every classroom. The sports facilities are best in the college and every student get a opportunity to learn and play their individual sports. There are no specific clubs or groups in the college.

Admission

I have applied for many other colleges like Siksha O Anusandhan, Bhubaneswar and many other colleges, also I got a confirmed admission from this college but rather I chose IMU Kolkata because my first priority was Marine engineering rather than Computer science engineering, also IMU Kolkata is a reputed government college and it's the one of the best college for pursuing Marine engineering. No I didn't get rejected from other colleges, because I have applied for only few colleges and almost I got confirmation from every college which I applied. The admission process of my college IMU Kolkata is that you should have atleast 60% with PCM in 12th also you have to clear IMU CET and you have to secure a good rank in the exam to get admission in this college, the cut off rank varies according to the category, the general category is under AIR 1000.

Faculty

4

The faculty to student ratio is good, there are faculties for every individual subjects. S Bhattacharjee sir, faculty of marine engineering is best as per me and also he is the passout of our college, the teaching method of him is very good and also he is very punctual to his time. Personally I don't like S Neogi Sir, because of his teaching method also he didn't understand the students problem. There are individual subjects for each semester examination and the difficulty level increases with the number of semester, 30% students get arrear in their semester examination but somehow they manage to clear in re-exams conducted by the University.

Night Life

4

In our college, gym facilities is available for every student and has trainer which helps students in gym workout. IMU Kolkata has a specific cafeteria for every student which is inside the campus and which is opened till 8pm everyday. The best hangout place inside the campus is the cafeteria and outside the campus there are no specific places to hangout. The locality is safe to roam till 9pm at the night also police station is near to the college so the environment is safe.

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
