My Experience as an IITian at IITG

I would personally rate 4 stars to the course curriculum.I choosed btech in engineering physics as it is a better arena for who are interested in research fields The course curriculum has theoretical as well as practical approach for teaching the students as it contains lab practical as well as other practical exams with projects My personal suggestion for course is that they should emphasize more on learning through machines not through books Their are four exams(two quizzes and mid sem exam and end sem exam) The level of difficulty can easily be tackled If one study with consistency

There are a wide range of companies who offers intership in IIT Guwahati campus and they provide management, technical skill gaining, research opportunities with stipend to the students There are a lot of things like problem solving skills, adequate knowledge of companies, communication skills etc which are required to crack any intership

Sc st scholarship is provided for all sc st students Also MEB/OEB scholarship is available for the students coming from financially weeker backgrounds to support their education Other state govt.(Andhra,Kerala) scholarship exclusive for the respective State is also available

Some of fests are Udgam,(Jan) Alcheringa ( feb-march) Techniche (August) Spirit(Nov) The central Library has adequate no of copies of all the books are available.Also the campus journal is also available The classrooms are air conditioned and digitally equipped There are a wide range of extra curricular activities like inter college sport competition, cultural competition etc There are social service clubs in the campus they provide help to the poors, orphan child.

The hostel accommodation is good.we(2 persons in one room) are provided with an almirah,two tables,two chairs,two beds , separate LAN connection Meal is superband menu is awesome especially the quality of food at low cost is so appreciable Registration process is simple and done through online payment and is quite affordable

I applied for all the top IITs but got a confirmed seat in IIT Guwahati.Being one of the top IITs it was among my preference list also this college has a better exposure to research field I couldn't get in IIT Delhi due to low rank in jee advanced Admission in my college is done through josaa councelling Eligibility is to pass jee advanced exam Cut off for my course(engineering physics) is around 5000 to 6000 Air rank The admission process was smooth

The faculty to student ratio is almost 1:40 at our campus.The faculty are good and approachable too. Major doubts are solved during the ongoing lectures Also if any one has extra doubts or problem they can meet the faculty after classes also. The physical chemistry prof.is most likable because of his academic excellence(PhD from Colombia university and post doctorate from Stanford University) Also he gives better life lessons The physics prof. Is less likable because of his rudeness and impatient in making students learn the concepts There are four exams in a semester and whether it will be easy or tough it depends on profs,a few students also failed the exam The course curriculum is relevant off course but it need some modifications too

The gym is provided in each and every hostels also there is a central gym which is open all the time Library is opened till 2am in night and 24 hours during exams There is no timing for hostel we need to come inside campus before 10 pm The famous hangouts are lake serpentine, brahmaputra ghat,view point( hill top), Mechanical hills,etc Yeah the campus is 24×7 safe to roam inside it infact we often do cycling till 3 am in night
