Course Curriculum Overview

4

We had subjects like 'financial modelling' and 'decession making using statistical techniques' in the honours curriculum, which have proven to be pretty relevant and challenging. ACCA has subjects like Audit, Financial Reporting and Financial Management which have good enough real life application and I believe even job oppurtunities. There are two semesters in an academic year, its never too pressurzing unless youre a BCOM with ACCA honours student, which only a minority are. There is an external ACCA exam every quarter, which is quite difficult

Internships Opportunities

4

The companies that offered internships during my academic year are Alliance Bernstein, Deloitte and ACA global. In the previous year D E shaw and Maersk have also offered internships. Some of these companies offered the interns pre placement offers. The stipend ranged between INR 20,000-INR 45000 per month.

Placement Experience

4

There are 6 semesters, students are eligible for internships in their 4th semester and for placements 5th semester onwards. Popular companies that visit include- Deloitte, tresvista, EY, Deutsche Bank, BNY, ACA global, ditto insurance, DE Shaw and ICICI, etc. The highest package is 24 lpa and the average package is 6 lpa. The roles offered revolve around audit, financial analysis, financial research, risk advisory and insurance advisory. About 180-200 students get placed in an academic year.

Fees and Financial Aid

The annual fees has been between Rs 100,000-Rs 125,000. I pay 25,000 extra since I opted for honours. A student opting for BCom will pay an annual fees of about Rs30,000, if they choose to do honours than an additional Rs 25,000. Only ACCA, CMA and BCom Interdisciplinary students have fees that goes upto Rs 1,00,000.

Campus Life

3

The campus gets pretty happening January onwards- there is the annual fest, the MUN, arts and crafts festival and an entrepreneurship summit. Each classroom has a smart board and is well lit. The campus is quite small, there is a gym on campus but no extracurricular activities take place here. The students that represent the college in different sports usually practice on other grounds. There are a lot of student run clubs, the cultural club, elocution and debate association, a dance group, poetry club, film club, finance, audit, economics and some others

Admission

I was accepted into Symbiosis School of Economics,Christ University, NMIMS Navi Mumbai, BMCC and Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics. My reasons for selective SCAC was- the fees was not too high, it seemed to have a good social life, Symbiosis is a brand name I considered to be pretty safe and the ACCA subjects are something I would willingly study. The application procedure of SCAC is quite simple, you have to fill the application form and then wait for the cut-offs to be announced. There are no entrance tests or interviews. The first list starts at 92% and there are about 5 lists that come out.

Faculty

4

Majority of the faculty is pretty approachable, they are also considerate about not pressurizing the students too much. Not all of the professors had in dept knowledge about their respective subjects. The faculty for ACCA subjects in particular is well qualified and very well read, they genuinely make the subject more interesting for you. Each semester has a 30 mark semester end exam. The remaining 70 marks are internals split into three, these could be MCQ tests, presentations, group activity or anything along those lines. By your final year, you will get over your stage fright of speaking in front of a crowd since you will have done so many presentations.

Night Life

3

The campus is most vibrant from 9:30 am to 12:30pm. There are small roadside eateries at a walking distance from college. Model colony has cafes, breakfast spots and restaurants. Pavillion mall is about a 15 minutes walk from college. The locality is relatively safe to roam around at night. FC road is about 10 minutes way on a bike or by rickshaw and is prett happening.

Other Applied Colleges

Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics - [GIPE] | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Economics)

I felt like I would not have a good social life

Placement Experience:

At TCSC placements are quite good as anyone. Even the SOBO colleges and Mithibai don't have placements as good as us. So this is why I always dreamt of studying here because since last 6-7 years, Thakur College placements have gone better and higher.

Remarks:

The good thing is that the college was not strict and was never forcing us to study rather it was seeing to it that it gave us proper advice and help us reach more towards my career goal. The bad part would be there were may staff which was very dull and was not kind, and no importance was given to correct their behaviour although it was evident by all.
