Everything about my college

The infrastructure is good but the if the older building are painted regularly they will look much better. Some of the uneccessary subjects should be removed from the curriculum. The shops in the campus should be questioned for charging more than what is charged in the town.

The course has been recently improved and is in quite with other nits though subjects like mechanical workshop, environmental science are not neccessary for computer science students in my opinion. We write the mid sem exam which is of 30 marks, end sem exam which is of 50 mark and 20 marks are given by evaluating attendance, minors, quizes and assigments. All the marks are added up and we are given a grade in accordance to total scores out of hundred

Silchar being a secluded area, companies with package above 40 lakhs rare come but there is a decent number of companies with packages of above 25 lakhs. Around 10 of my seniors received 25+ package and 3 got a package of 32 lakhs. The average package of cse this year was around 11 lakhs while that of the other branches were relatively low having average pavkage of around 7lakhs.

Technoesis is the tech fest of our college. Incandescence is the cultural fest. These are the big two fest of the college with several smaller fests like oikkotan and poshua going on at different times of the year. Several big names like polyphia, local train etc have been seen in our fests.

Anual fees is around 1 lakh 40thounsand(both semesters included). Most of the details can be found on collegepravesh.com . It is an nit so the fees arent expensive and are the same as any other nit. Even within the college most of the expenses come from buying snacks as travelling within the campus is free of cost and provided By the institution

I have not opted for loans or scholarships so i do not have much idea regarding it but i do have some friends who had opted for scholarships. Students with under 5 lakh family income have their fees reduced to some extent and those with under 1 lakh family income have their fees reduced by a huge margin.

There are tons of extracurricular event going on every week through out the year. Just name the field you have interest in and there is a club organising an event for in that field. Every semester has 3-4 lab works included in the course. They arent anything great, just typical labs you get at your college. There are quite a few number of tornaments that take place in college. There are inter hostel, inter branch, intra branch olympic fashioned sport weeks. The most commonly played games are cricket, football, basketball, table tennis, lawn tennis, chess and badminton. Inter hostel video game competitions are also organised with rainbow seige, cs go, fifa, cod played most commonly.

The first year and hostels 9A, 9B, 9C,9D have great infrastructure as they are newly built and can be compared to the hostels of iits. While older hostel which are hostel 4-8 require renovation and arent that great though the hostel food is good enough. Students with better cgpa are placed in better hostels.

The seniors and alumni have always been helpful to us. They are in our whatsapp and facebook group and guide us whenever we ask for help. There is a no ragging policy at nit silchar. The seniors are like are our older brothers and sisters and are never rude to us.

I got into the college through the jee main exam and had 18258 crl. I was selected for Computer science in the first round under home state quota. During counselling you are to report at the reporting center of nit silchar and a few days after that admissions will take place which may take a few hours. Classes will start 3-4 days after the admission.

It is ranked as the 10th best nit but i think it deserves much better. The faculty, campus and facilities are better than most other nits. Nit silchar being in the northeast makes people reluctant of joining the institution as western people have negative assumptions about the northeast. But northeast is the same as just any other region of india and if nit silchar got the attentions it deserves it can get into the top 6 nits of india.
