Course Curriculum Overview

4

I opted for Political Science (hons) as I have scored well in political science in class 12 the whole year and I found it a bit interesting. I wanted to persuade it for my higher studies and study about it in deep.In college we don't have any single book , we have to go through so much material. My teachers ask you to buy binders and may be some not . Are teachers have not suggested us to buy binders as they have so much material which wouldn't be covered in a semester and additionally there language is also very tough . You can ask for the pdf if any of your classmate have bought it because the binders are expensive and the syllabus changes every semester. In exams we have been given 10 questions out of which we have to do 5 only. Each question contains 18-19 marks in which we have to fill 9-10 sheets each question. The time given to complete the whole exam is 3 hours . The questions given are direct and easy . Talking about our teachers they have recommended us some books from where we can study and provided us the pdf of the readings. As per my preference you can also go through the SOL material as the content is appropriate and easy.

Internships Opportunities

5

There is a placement cell in the college that gives all the details about the internship and placement opportunities offered by different companies outside the college. There is a lot of internships that is being shared by the placement cell. One of the internship that I had applied for is the Younity Summer Internship (14 days) with stipend of 5-10 thousand rupees for the duration along with 7 certificates and an accomodation letter from the manager.

Placement Experience

4

As I'm fresher itself I don't have much knowledge about the campus placements. But the average package that is being offered is 5.23 LPA and highest package was 6 or 7 LPA. There is a placement cell that works regularly and shares all the internship and placement opportunities that is being offered by the other companies. Being A political science student I would like to join civil services.

Fees and Financial Aid

I am currently pursuing my degree in B.A. Political science (hons) from Kamala Nehru College of Delhi University. Being a 1st year student my fees is 16,450 INR per year. You can also apply for fee concessions if you have any financial problem or you are good in studies. There are few scholarships by the government to which you can apply. The fees is same every year as per my knowledge.Tuition fess is 180 rupees, university student welfare fund is 250 rupee , college student welfare fund is 2030 rupee , University Development fund is 1500 rupee, College Development Fund is 4360 rupee , University facilities and services charges is 1500 rupees, College facilities and services charges is 6380 rupee and economically weaker section support University. Fund is 250 rupee. The fees for all PWD students for all courses is 120 rupee per year. Apart from this We have been asked to submit rupees 100 for alumni meet etc of my department, which we have to submit once in the three years, but its totally upto the college and the department if they ask for it or not. One drawback is this college doesn't have any hostel and as it is South Delhi the prices for PG are very high like starting is from 15k or more which is not affordable for everyone.

Campus Life

3

There are a lot of fests , orientation, workshop and alumni meets being organised in a regular basis. The name of the annual fest is Ullas that is being organised regularly in the month of January or February. The books and journals are available in the college Library and are sufficient.A library card is being issued by the college through the you can have the books issued. There is no AC in the library, there are fans and coolers. Honestly, the projecters in the class don't work , there are literally a show piece. The tutorial class rooms are too small, only 15 students can fit in and there are only 5 chairs, others have to manage. There is a ground in the college where the sports events being organised. There are many teachers alloted for sports. There are many societies and clubs as well are a run both the students and the central government. The societies are pretty active in the college. By joining different societies students can enhance their confidence and get exposure. I have joined Unnat bharat Abhiyan a society that comes under the central government and works for the social welfare.

Admission

So I applied for various colleges and courses but my preference was always my course. Kamala Nehru College was my 41th preference in my preference sheet. Before this I got allocated Mata Sundari college which is a off campus college and I didn't the campus. I applied for Upgrade then I got upgraded to Kamala Nehru College and even got my preferred course.my score was 679 so I got If I would upgrade there are chances that I would get a better college and may be given any another course so I freezed. I didn't get my rejection from any college my preference was always Delhi University , I even applied in Punjab University as a backup option and even cleared the cut off but I chose DU over PU. One mistake that I made is I made my preference list from my own and that was not correct, may be if the preference list was correct I had been allocated to any another college with better Ranking as I have OBC quota as well. The admission process follows CUET , then after the results, Every university that participates in CUET opens their admission forms . We have to register on CSAS portal if you're applying for Delhi University the the CSAS phase -2 open after some time in which we have to submit our college and course preference. Then there are various rounds for admission.

Faculty

3

I am not clear about the faculty and student ratio . But the teachers are alloted for every subject and they even teach well. We have 7 subjects in total. Talking about my course, I have 3 DSC's i.e IIIPT, CNI and UPT that is my core subject. In additional we have GE ( general elective) in which we can even get a minor degree if we study the same GE till 7 semesters as we have to opt GE every semester. For AEC we have two options i.e. EVS and a language sub (hindi or Sanskrit) which was decided by the college itself like half of the courses have to study Hindi and others have to study EVS and vice versa for the next Semester. Then we have SEC (skill enhancement course) and VAC ( Value Addition Value ) which we can chose ourselves and again we have change in next semester. Talking about exams we have 1st semester exams starting in December and ending in January and from February the second semester begins in which the entire syllabus including the Core subjects got changed. 66.66% attendance is compulsory to appear in exams. In first semester exams the questions are direct we have one question of around 18-19 marks in which we have to write around 9-10 pages each question. 10 given have been given out of which we have to do 5 in 3 hours.

Interview Experience

3

No we don't have any Group Discussion, interview for the admission. The online exams we had was CUET ( common university entrance test) which was conducted all over India. The procedure was little complicated, first the registration was done in the month of March , the exams were conducted in May and June, the result were out in July . After that the participating Universities open their admission forms, Delhi University has opened its CSAS portal , where you have to register. After some time it's phase 2 opens in which you have to fill your course and college preferences . Fill your preferences wisely. After that there were various rounds , I got a college allocated in the first round but I applied for upgraded and got another college in round 2 , after that there were multiple rounds like spot round, mid entry, mop round etc.

Night Life

3

There is no nightlife in the college as there is no hostel , everyone lives in the PGs or flats or travel up and down from their homes daily. The college is being closed at 5:30 . As my college is in South Delhi it is pretty safe as compared to North Delhi and other areas in Delhi . I live in a pg that is 15 min away from the College. There are various shops in the area of fast food, stationary , Dispensary and other essentials .This area is safe you can even roam at night.

Other Applied Colleges

Panjab University - [PU] | Bachelor of Arts [BA]

I didn't opt that college because it was a bit far from my home and secondly I got a better course that too what my preference was in Delhi University.

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
