Course Curriculum Overview

5

The curriculum is the strongest point of the course. It covers wide range of literary genre, periods and theories. The syllabus includes British literature, European literature etc. It is very relevant for students who want to pursue careers in content writing, media, teaching, journalism etc. Exam are held at the end of each semester, with internals like assignments and presentations in between. The difficulty level is moderate as long as you study and attwnt classes regularly. The timings are manageable with fair markings.

Internships Opportunities

5

The college offers decent internship oppurtunities through its Placement Cell and various societies. Most internships are related to writing, research, marketing and NGO work. Common companies offering internships are- Tech for India- offering roles in teaching, community outreach, content creation and research. AIESEC- social projects and marketing roles. DU based soceities like magazine editing, organizing literray events and academic assistence.

Fees and Financial Aid

Fee structure at Dyal Singh College isn quite affordable. For my BA(8Hons) programme, the yearly fee was aeound 15,000 per year including tution fees, development fees and other. There are no extra or heavy charges except Examination and registration charges. The fees remains almost same every year and doesn't increase frequently making the course very economical. The college also offers reservation relaxation in fees and Scholarship for students eg: government scholarships - Merit-Cum-Need. Eli8gible students can also get support based on thei8r academic performance and family income. Overall, the fee structure is student friendly and manageable for many students. nd financial aids for economically weaker sections.

Campus Life

5

The college has great campus, with absolute greenery and environment friendly surrounding. The campus stays quite active because of festives and programmes happening around like various Societies of the college organize their events like - TedX, Drama society, fashion society, dance society etc. either in Auditorium or open ground stage typically every month some or another event keeps on happening in the campus. The Department societies also organize various events and programmes like my society- Literary Society of English Hns Department organized its annual festive - Madrigal each year. Apart from societies, the college also organizes Fests every year with amazing crowd and security. The sport progranme also happends in few months like atheletics. Many extracurricular activities are available in the campus and sports like Volleyball, Cricket, Basketball and Table Tennis.

Admission

I applied to various colleges under Delhi University and got merit based admission in Dyal Singh College in English Hons programme in first cutoff. While in others, my admission was not confirmed basically because of the high cutoff like St. Stefan College etc. I am really glad to be admitted in this college which gave me many oppurtunities and a great faculty with wonderful campus. The college now accepts CUET based admissions, when i enrolled it was on Merit based with a smooth admission process.

Faculty

5

The english department of Dyal Singh College has a really great faculty and good faculty to student ratio. Mny professors here are approachable and supportive, always ready to help and can reach out anytime for any guidance like for assignments, exams or assignments, their friendly nature makes it more comfortable to approach. They encourage class participation and help everyone to develop strong analytical skills. The course is very well designed with core papers, discipline electives, AECs and SECs. The english hons syllabus is very fast but enriching covering multiple literary periods, genres and theories.

Night Life

5

The college is right next to the JLN Mtero station with perfect day-night out spots within few distance like Sunder Nursery, a really beautiful place to hangout and celebrate birthdays, picnics and 'girls' spot. Another we have, Lodhi Garden, one of the famous picnic-garden with beautiful structures and monuments, also, not to forget, Humayun Tomb nearest to Sunder Nursery, a Historical spot to enrich your knowledge with wonderful environment. The campus also has National museum and famous Janpath market within few kilometers. The campus itself has 2-3 grounds known as - Evening ground, Canteen ground and one of the favourite spot- Rose Garden in the campus. Outside the college gates there are many food and drink stalls one of the popular oneis the Mggie Point. The college is planning to provide hostels for students which right now is being planned and yet there is no college hostels but has PGs, flats in nearby locations like SouthEx, Lajpat Nagar etc.

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
