Course Curriculum Overview

3

I love History and DU's History papers are comprehensive and vast. Yes, I mean the curriculum design can be a bit better. To be honest. Because even now we are just learning the same format of History. But what about History writing and touching up on Techniques and methods? That part is missing actually. A book should be mandatory for all students of History that is what is history by EH Carr. Teaching methods are a bit non engaging. Like instead of engaging discussions, sometimes it feels like just rote learning. Exams are at the end only of the semester but tests will happen frequently

Internships Opportunities

5

As I am a first year student, I am not that much aware but I am pretty sure that MIranda House offers best internships. Overall, it gets down to individual networking and learning opportunities as well which you will have a lot in the college.

Placement Experience

5

I guess from 2nd year, basically 3rd semester in which students become eligible for placements. Highest package last year was above 20 lakhs and starting from 5 to 10 lakhs. Miranda House has a dedicated intership cell, a community run by students and seniors. And top corporate companies are invited. There's also an entrepreneurial cell and a huge gala was conducted by the society in which top ceos were also invited. My plan is to apply for a postgraduate program in History only as I wish to become a professor.

Fees and Financial Aid

Hi! I am Saanvi Randhawa, 1st year BA Program student of Miranda House. My major is History and minor is Geography. My course fees is 16,000 per semester perhaps. The infrastructure of the college is great, one of the best in DU. The fees is less and you have access to so many facilities. The library is great, auditorium is awesome and just overall campus is amazing. The fees might be not there for disabled students. Several scholarships are available. There's a separate fees column for economically weaker students. Inside the college, canteen is very much affordable. You will get exposure to different huge events and lots of opportunities for networking and meeting great personalities.

Campus Life

5

Annual festival is Tempest organized in the month of March or April. It's a huge fest. Apart from that, each Department of Miranda House has their own fest in the Nescafe Lawns with stalls and live music. NSS organized a beautiful Diwali Mela which was so fun to attend. There's a fest happening like everyday in our college lowkey. Books and journals are available in huge quantity. The upper floor of library has air conditioners as well. There are journals available from various fields and there are dedicated bookshelves upon bookshelves belonging to various disciplines. Smart boards are present in some classrooms as well as projector screens. NCC is very active in college. There's a basketball court, a huge sports ground and badminton as well as lawn tennis court. The Sports Department even conducts a free Yoga Class in the morning as a certification course. Students can create their own identity by being a part of various societies and clubs. Some prestigious societies include Mridang and Tonz, dance societies. Like there are so many clubs and societies. Our college is like a safe space for everyone. Miranda House Queer Collective Arcoiris is also very active. There's English and Hindi Debate clubs. And all these societies conduct their own events and fests as well. I am a part of Poiesis Book Club, Tedx MH, SpicMacay, MHQC...like all societies are so professional and have a vivid online presence as well.

Admission

In my preference list, I had also considered other renowned colleges of University of Delhi such as Lady Shri Ram, Hindu, Maitreyi and even Jesus and Mary College. But for years I had only dreamt of Miranda House College and it was my top preference. No my first priority like I got my second preference that is Miranda House. But yes I got rejected from History Honours cutoff of Miranda House. Okay so basically CUET UG course has to be attempted basically. And after that the entire procedure is through DU CSAS portal. You will have to make prefence list very wisely. Cuet UG is based on class 12 Ncert. Actually, for BA Program like in History course or BA Program Multidisciplinary, even Stem background students are there. So subject wise, give CUET in subjects you study in class 12 and then you are eligible for other courses also

Faculty

4

Faculties are approachable no doubt but I mean not that much. Especially in the case of BA Program students. The department union handle everything. Our seniors did everything for us. From guiding us to organizing freshers. I really liked the class of Dr. Abhinav Bhatnagar sir. He taught us Ancient Societies paper and he was so great. He even gave us personal review on our essays. End semester exams are for all university students. But before that there are tons of assignments and tests under the aegis of internal and continuous assessment. Like for each class, we had a test, presentation, written assignment, writeup. DU exams have repeated questions so it's easy only.

Night Life

5

The Library is open till 7 pm for day scholars. Even on Sundays, I think Library is open. There's an affordable college canteen, a Nescafe Stall, PAM Canteen and delicious homemade food Millets Canteen. You can get a sandwich from Canteen even at like 6 pm. Hostel timings...I think after 10 pm, college hostel is closed down. Yes yes, i mean college security is tight. Nala Road is a bit unsafe but GC Narang Road and Chattra Marg are safe only but of course there have been incidents. College security is pretty strict. No outsiders are allowed easily. Famous hangout spots inside college would be the front lawns, Nescafe Lawns, Hogwarts staircase, college canteen area and overall just lovely atmosphere actually. Outside college, Tom Uncle Maggi Point and Patel Chest.

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
