Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum is extremely relevant to the course, when I chose my course as economics honours this sort of rigour, mathematics and critical thinking is exactly what I expected and also wanted. It prepares me to take on various opportunities and expands my options to more than just economics. It gives me knowledge on how markets work, and deeper insights into topics such as inflation, GDP, balance of payments which are basic but crucial for understanding the subject and looking at the world with the eyes of an economist

Internships Opportunities

3

Internship opportunities are offered after a certain period of time, being in my second semester I have not yet experienced what it is like to apply to internships or how they are provided at college, but there is a placement cell which helps students get recruited and pass on information regarding usefull internships

Fees and Financial Aid

I have paid 21000 as the fees for my first year in Sri Venkateswara college, Delhi university. I am a general category student and it is a known fact that DU is extremely affordable as it is government affiliated. I am not aware if the fees will increase next year, but the fees for all categories is the same.

Campus Life

5

Our college has an extremely vibrant and happening campus life, with several events such as 'Jalsa', dandiya nights and many more events hosted by various societies. Our college has more than 30 student led societies, which helps cater to every students interest. There are branches of world renowned intiatives such as enactus, theres clubs which will help you gain practical knowledge and insight on things you have an interest for, and our college also has singing, dancing and theatre teams that are famous in all of Delhi such as Verve Dance Crew, who have made a huge name for themselves, even anubhuti (the theatre club) and the singing club too. They participate in many competitions and bring glory to the name of the college. People are always busy, preparing for some or the other event or competition in different corners of campus. The fine arts association is busy in planning our biggest annual fest called 'Nexus' which is a 3 day fest wherein people from various colleges come, compete, enjoy concerts, stalls and the colours of the infamous Delhu University fest season

Admission

I chose my college because it is a well renowned institution with prestigious alumni, and even though i heard negatives about this college, they mostly came from students who failed to get in. The admission process for Delhi University requires a competitive entrance exam called the 'CUET' and students are given admission into their preferred colleges on the basis of their marks and everyone elses' marks. Sri Venkateswara college is one of the most sought after colleges, and with such a lard number of people competing to be here, I couldn't resist attending. I applied to private colleges all over India and got accepted into well known colleges in Sonepat, South India and Bombay, but I didn't want to attend a private college, pay 20 times the fee for the same knowledge and professors and just for everything to be handed to me on the table. I wanted to develop real life skills and independence and wanted to struggle a bit, all of which DU provides. Peoples opinions vary, and there are several students for whom Delhi University is a nightmare, but for me personally it works out the best

Faculty

5

The relationship between faculty and students varies from professor to professor. Some professors are frank with students, encouraging students to talk freely and discuss topics irrelevant to the course curriculum, but most professors are strictly just professors who come to teach a subject. Our faculty is extremely approachable, whenever a student has any doubts they can approach them and depend on them to solve their issue.

Night Life

2

My university is for day scholars and thus there is no night life inside the university as it closes after 7pm, but it is located in the beautiful Delhi University South campus wherein some of the most happening places and markets exist

Other Applied Colleges

Ashoka University | Bachelor of Arts [BA] {Hons.} (Economics)

I wanted to go for a prestigious Delhi University college rather than a private college as it was more suitable for me

The course curriculum is a bit too theoretical and less practical. The exams in the college takes places every month which are seasonals and are for internal marking and then we have semester exams in every 6 months which accounts for the external marking.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
