What Students Say
Likes
- Huge campus with loads of amenities, a great gym and great cafes all around.
- Great staff who are always more than happy to help.
- Loads of opportunities for social sport and other events to socialize.
Dislikes
- Not enough accommodations on campus.
- Lack of financial help
- Frequent problems with the WIFI and computers in the library
Course Curriculum
- The course is pretty easy but the difficulty is that it is very subjective. It is quite practical which I like but there's also a bit of theory.
- There's quite a lot of case studies used to explain different theories of modules which helps a lot. There's lectures and seminars for each module.
- Lectures are on mondays. They are an hour long and they usually brief you about the topic for the week. You will then have a seminar in the week for the same module and same topic. Seminars are two hours long and more interactive and in general are more engaging and you get to learn more in depth about the topic.
- There are around 150 students in my course. All 150 attend lectures together on Monday. Seminar groups are smaller and have around 20-25 students in each seminar. There are around 15-20 Indian students in my course.
Admission Experience
- Loughborough University- Rejected. This was my first choice as Loughborough has one of the best programmes for sport study. They also have great sports teams and do well in competitions. However, unfortunately I did not get accepted. They get loads of students applying every year so the cut off must have been quite high.
- University of East London- Accepted, Leeds Beckett University- Accepted, St Mary's University- Accepted, Westminster University- Accepted, Nottingham Trent University- Accepted.
- Leeds was my second choice which also has similar sport programmes to Loughborough and also has good sports teams. They also had the exact course that I was looking for i.e sport business management. I also enjoyed partaking in the football team during my time here.
- As mentioned earlier Leeds Beckett is one of the best colleges for people interested in pursuing sports as a career. They are heavily focused on sports and provide in depth knowledge of the industry.
- I had applied to Leeds Beckett through UCAS. The UCAS process is long but pretty straightforward and self-explanatory.
- In terms of the admission criteria, you had to get an average grade of 75% or more to be accepted along with 75% or more in any financial subjects i.e accounts, business studies, economics. Other than academics you also need an IELTS score of 7+ to get in. The overall admission process was smooth and not too problematic.
- Applied for the September 2022 intake as it suited my timeline. After finishing my boards in May I was able to start my further education in a few months in mid September. The admission process, as mentioned multiple times now, was through UCAS. Started the UCAS process in January, then started to hear from the universities around April/May. Then I had to choose an option by May, once done you also had to submit your board's results as the offer given by your choice of university is only conditional. Once everything is done you will have received a CAS certificate through which you could apply for a visa.
Faculty
- Yes, faculty members are quite helpful in finding jobs. Again as mentioned 1 lecturer for lectures for all students on the course.
- And then for the seminars 1 tutor for 20-25 students. The tutors are very good and are very supportive.
Campus Life
- My college has 2 campuses. There's the city campus and the headingley campus.
- There are loads of facilities available on campus. There's cafes, gyms, astro pitches, indoor pitches, tennis, badminton and basketball courts and much more. Not aware of much of the social stuff on campus but there are plenty. Loads of sports teams to join that play competitively in the BUCS league.
Part Time Jobs
- I have no idea about these posts and their pay range. When it comes to opportunities on campus, there are loads that you can do. Easy to apply to as well. For students the maximum work you can do is 20 hours per week. It is quite easy to get jobs on campus as there are loads. These jobs are easy to apply to as well with a decent pay.
- I am not that familiar with what other Indian students like to do for work. On campus jobs can get you around £12 an hour which is very good pay and you can get shifts every other week for 10-12 hours. You can find part time jobs on indeed and linkedin as well.
Placement
- Don't know figures but there is a good chance of getting a graduate job after completing your course.
- For graduates the average salary can range from £22,000 to £35,000. It also depends on your role and the company.
Accommodation
- I found my accommodation through the university portal. Then for my second year accommodation I got a rented house from a student letting agency.
- Again monthly rent depends on your accommodation and various external factors. My rent currently is £450 per month.
- For getting an accommodation it depends on your preferences. If you want to stay close to the uni, probably on uni campus it will be more expensive but convenient. If you do not mind staying away from uni you can get great houses for cheap but you will spend a bit more on travel. My current accommodation is around 4-5 kms from my uni.
Exams
- Again as mentioned earlier IELTS was the only exam needed for my college and course. Again my application was done through UCAS, the details are well mentioned on the website when you apply. You need to fill out whatever is being asked. All your marksheets, recommendations if asked and a statement of purpose to join the university.
- There were no interviews for my college or for the course I had applied to.
Fees
- The fees for my course is £14,000 per annum.
- When it comes to accommodation it can be very variable. You can choose to stay in a student accommodation where you get your own rooms and share a flat with other students and have a common kitchen and utility space.Student accommodations are usually a bit on the expensive side that can range from anywhere between £5000 for a one year contract to £14,000 a year for expensive studio accommodations.
- Expenses also depend completely on you. On an average your expenses can be around £200-£300 a month. Your expenses also depend on where you stay in the UK. London and other major cities down south are more expensive than cities up north like Leeds.
Scholarship
- There are no scholarships for my course. However there are other ways and courses for which you can get scholarships.
- I am unaware of them but you can easily find this information online. Or you can speak to staff from the university you're applying to and find more detailed information about scholarship programmes.
- As mentioned my course does not offer scholarships nor did any of my batchmates receive any sort of waivers. I am also not aware of other scholarship programmes and the exact details about them.
