Hello, Let me start by saying that all these institutions are Indian Institutes of “Management” and not Indian Institutes of “Business.” With that in mind, the aim of IIMs is to flourish and complement the development of the region where they are located. Now, I’ll address your question with a focus on IIM Udaipur, without undermining any other institute mentioned or not mentioned in the question.
IIM Udaipur is fortunate to have attracted top-notch faculty in finance and other fields. Why is that? Simple! The director has a strong background, being an alumnus of IIM Bangalore and having served as a respected professor there before taking the helm at IIM Udaipur. Consequently, many of our permanent faculty members hail from IIM Bangalore. Additionally, being the closest IIM to Ahmedabad, we benefit from a significant number of visiting faculty from IIM Ahmedabad.
When discussing finance, we cannot overlook the expertise of a renowned finance professor who is also involved in the entrepreneurship cell and the incubation center of the Institute. But our list doesn't stop there! We have professors who are alumni of institutions ranging from Nanyang Technological University to other prestigious schools.
The total cost for the MBA at IIM Udaipur is around 22 lakhs for the entire two-year course. While that’s a hefty sum, there are some scholarship opportunities available, though mainly for reserved categories. If you’re from the general category like me, don’t count too much on getting one. Just keep in mind that there will be additional expenses, around 1.5 to 2 lakhs, for things like parties and events that pop up during your time here!
IIM Udaipur’s summer and final placement reports are compiled according to the Indian Placement Reporting Standards (IPRS) and undergo external auditing. The IPRS framework aims to standardize placement reports, enhancing transparency, comparability, and reliability for decision-making. IIM Udaipur is among five IIMs and a total of 31 Indian B-schools adhering to this standard.
IIM Udaipur Placement Trends 2019
IIM Udaipur boasts some of the best professors from older IIMs teaching marketing electives as visiting faculty. The Director of IIM Udaipur is very dynamic.
And remember, an IIM is an IIM - the experience here is hard to match against most other institutes, except for other tier 1 schools like XLRI, SP Jain, FMS Delhi (which is not a residential program), NITIE, TAPMI, etc.
DoMS at IIT Madras offers a solid MBA program and may have decent placements as well. The institute has been around for more than 50 years, with an alumni network close to 50,000. Some of the marketing faculty there are excellent.
You should definitely check the list of marketing electives offered at both institutes before making a final decision.
Ultimately, it's your choice whether you want to join the IIT alumni network (23 institutes, over 300,000 alumni across diverse fields) or the IIM network (20 institutes, around 70,000 alumni mostly in business roles). Both have their advantages and disadvantages!
IIM Udaipur’s MBA program has been quite an eye-opener for me. The faculty and infrastructure are good, and the curriculum is similar to the older IIMs. The first year is quite manageable, and I found the exams to be easier than I expected. Campus life is exceptional; there are 34 clubs, and everyone seems to be part of at least one. We celebrate all festivals, and events like Solaris and TEDx keep the vibe lively. When it comes to placements, they are okayish. The average package is about 19.5 Lakh, but do keep in mind that internships can be a letdown sometimes. You might end up with an internship paying only around 4 Lakh, which is on the lower side. Scholarships are available, but they mainly cater to reserved categories.
IIM Udaipur and GIM Goa offer unique experiences, but they cater to different student preferences. IIM Udaipur boasts a rigorous curriculum similar to top IIMs, with a strong emphasis on research and a vibrant campus life featuring numerous clubs and events. However, placement stats can be a bit underwhelming for a newer IIM. GIM Goa, while not explicitly detailed here, has a reputation for a strong focus on practical learning and industry exposure, making it appealing for those interested in a more hands-on approach. Personally, I would pick IIM Udaipur for its academic rigor and active campus culture, but if you're someone who values practical experience and a laid-back environment, GIM Goa could be the better choice for you.
At IIM Udaipur, the end semester results for our MBA program typically get declared about 4 to 6 weeks after the exams wrap up. It’s a pretty standard timeline, and honestly, it feels like an eternity when you’re waiting. But once they come out, it’s a relief because the grading process is quite transparent.
The cutoff for IIM Udaipur's MBA program is typically pretty competitive. For the 2025 batch, I’d say you should aim for a CAT percentile above 95 to have a solid chance. Being from Rajasthan, it might give you a slight advantage since the college looks for diversity too. Just keep in mind, the total fees for the course is around 22 lakhs, so make sure you’re financially prepared!
IIM Udaipur and IMT Ghaziabad both have their strengths, but when it comes to placements and internships, IMT Ghaziabad tends to have the edge. The average package at IIM Udaipur is around 19.5 Lakh with a somewhat disappointing internship scenario, while IMT Ghaziabad, known for its strong industry connections, typically offers better internship opportunities and higher placement packages. The campus life at IIM Udaipur is vibrant with numerous clubs and events, which is great for networking, but if you're primarily focused on job prospects and career outcomes, IMT Ghaziabad might be the better choice. I recommend IMT Ghaziabad for those who prioritize robust placement opportunities, while IIM Udaipur is a good fit if you value a lively campus atmosphere and are okay with taking more risks on placements.
IIM Udaipur has been the best thing that has ever happened to me. One year in, and it has been a transformational journey. The institute's focus on entrepreneurship, rural and global immersion truly sets it apart. Values and transparency are key components that resonate in all IIMU-related activities.
The student bodies (clubs and committees) provide ample opportunities for every individual to apply knowledge gained in the classroom. The management offers full support in every possible way. With numerous initiatives by clubs/committees and campus businesses always on the horizon, IIMU is definitely the place to be.
The feeling of being part of this legacy is the biggest motivation.
Thank you, IIM Udaipur!!!
