Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, offers the Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) (Hons.) in Finance - also known as B.Com (Hons.) Financial Markets Management (FMM) - as a full-time, on-campus undergraduate programme under the Faculty of Commerce. Under the NEP 2020 framework, the course is a 4-year programme (8 semesters), with a specialised curriculum covering Financial Markets, Securities Analysis, Portfolio Management, Derivatives, Corporate Finance, and Financial Accounting. The course is offered at the Main Campus (FMC) and Rajiv Gandhi South Campus (RGSC), with a combined seat intake of up to 124 seats (minimum 31, maximum 62 per campus). The annual tuition fee for regular seats at FMC is approximately Rs. 2,300 per year, making it one of the most affordable finance-specialised B.Com programmes in India. Admission is based on CUET (UG) scores, and the programme is popular among students aspiring for careers in capital markets, investment banking, financial analysis, and CA/CFA/MBA pathways.

Admissions for the 2026-27 session are upcoming. Based on the 2025 cycle, CUET UG registration typically opens in January and the exam is held in May-June. BHU's CAP (UG) registration for counselling is expected to open in July 2026, with seat allotment rounds in August 2026. The CUET UG 2026 exam is scheduled from May 11 to May 31, 2026, with results expected tentatively in early July 2026. Note: This is a Special Course of Studies at BHU; if the number of candidates opting for this course is less than the minimum number of seats, the course may not run in that academic session.

  • This is classified as a "Special Course of Studies" at BHU, meaning it may not run if minimum seat threshold is not met.
  • BHU is ranked among the top central universities in India (NIRF Ranking 2024: 5th among universities), lending significant value to the degree.
  • The course is particularly suited for students targeting careers in stock markets, financial services, investment banking, and professional certifications like CFA, NISM, and CA.

BHU: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 41 Reviews

Admission to Banaras Hindu University (BHU) requires passing an entrance exam with multiple-choice questions, followed by a counseling process and an interview. The university offers affordable education, with annual fees ranging from INR 1,500 to INR 26,000, making it an attractive option for economically disadvantaged students. The total expense is typically under INR 8,000 annually for a middle-class lifestyle. Faculty at BHU are highly qualified, though student experiences with faculty vary.

The academic structure includes internal tests twice a semester, with exams comprising 30-mark sessionals and 70-mark written tests. BHU's placement record is diverse, with the highest package in 2023 reaching INR 1.2 crore per annum and an average of INR 23.13 LPA. Median salaries were INR 8.0 Lakhs for 3-year UG programs, INR 8.50 Lakhs for 4-year programs, and INR 16.0 Lakhs for 5-year programs. Scholarships are available for students from economically weaker sections, with programs like the National Scholarship Program and Uttar Pradesh Scholarship Program offering INR 20,000 to 30,000 annually.

The university's fees for courses like B.Com (Hons) are around INR 3,000-4,000, while specialized courses like B.Com (Hons) Financial Market Management cost approximately INR 28,000 per year. Hostel fees range from INR 3,000 to 4,000, excluding mess charges. Some students face challenges with the scholarship application process and feel financial assistance could be enhanced. Overall, BHU provides a supportive academic environment with a focus on theoretical and practical learning.

Ques. How competitive is the admission to BHU B.Com (Hons.) Finance compared to regular B.Com (Hons.)?

Fees and Financial Aid:

I opted for the course B.Com(Hons) Financial Market Management which is a specialised course in finance the annual fee is 27,000 ( 2500 regular fees + 25,500 for FMM) the course capacity is relativity less than B.Com(Hons), that's why it deliver the best output as it becomes easy for the professors to keep and eye on majority students, The course offers placement opportunities too , myself got the package of 6 LPA in my 6th semester from a Bengaluru based company. However I didn't joined because I got the internship opportunity in Comptroller and auditor general of India which is the Supreme audit institution of India , i got to know about it from the placement cell of the university, hence I can say that the placement cell of BHU pertains with strong network. Back to the FMM course it gives detail knowledge about the financial markets ( SEBI , IRDA, RBI, NAFRA etc) and practices that are followed under it , During the 5th semester every students have to undergo a 2 month internship from any recognised body and for that the LOR is given by department itself, so it gives the practical exposed too, the last semester consists 100 marks of VIva which based on the overall knowledge a student got during the course. If you are thinking that 27,000 is too much for this course then don't worry there is central government and state government scholarships scheme that reimburse the whole 27,000 into the bank account of students.
