Placement: Their is a very systematic placement process; There is a prep team to help us make our CV, prep for various sectors and do GD-PI prep and the placement days are really well structured too

Placement Experience:

Summer internships take place in the 2nd trimester and the final placements take place between the 5th and 6th trimester. The college has 100% placements - all students get placed through the official placements. Around 30-40% get a PPO in the summer and the remaining get placed during the final placements. Companies come in all sectors including finance, consulting, marketing, general management and operations. Around 25% of the batch gets placed in consulting companies - top tier firms including consulting: Mckinsey, Bain, BCG; Finance: BoFA, HSBC, Barclays; Marketing: P&G, HUL, Gen Management: TAS, ABG come to campus. The highest package is around 1 crore and the average package is around 28-30 Lakhs Apart from IIM A we are the only college to provide a dream policy - under which people can sit for companies even after receiving a PPO because of which there were around 500+ offers were made for a batch of 480 students

Placement Experience:

Everyone gets placed. All top consulting firms recruit in heavy numbers (MBBK, A&M, Accenture, ADL, Big 4, Boutique firms, etc.). Finance offers a wide variety of jobs and firms with the best firms like BoFa and JPMC also recruiting at obscenely high salaries. Top PEVC firms like A91 also come for recruitment. Marketing and Product Management also have all the top companies present (HUL, P&G, Reckitt, Loreal, Nestle, Dabur, Microsoft, Atlassian, Media.net, etc.). General Management also sees top firms like TAS, ABG, Mahindra, Bajaj Finserv, etc. appear. Placement opportunities are aplenty and the salaries offered are the highest in India. (Avg. package 34L+).

A comprehensive look at IIM Calcutta

Placement transparency: With the concentration of power in the hands of place comm. it is very easy to feel like the placement process is not entirely fair for all. There are little to no checks for favouritism too.

Placement Experience:

Placement happens in two cycles: Summers and Laterals/Finals. Summer placements are for internships over the summer and final/lateral placements are for permanent roles after graduation with laterals for folks with considerable work experience. Placement is overseen by a placement committee comprised of 10 members from seniors in your first year and juniors in your second. The companies are split into 3 clusters and the process takes place over a week for all cycles. You can look up the figures in the placement report available online but the brief explanation is that everyone gets placed and the best firms visiting the campus tend to remain consistent.

Each of these IIMs has developed its unique personality over the years, and each one has its own strengths and weaknesses.

IIMB intakes people with good and relevant work experience, IIMA seeks a good academic record and a bit of humbleness in a candidate, and IIMC looks for strong analytical skills (it has the highest CAT cutoffs).

During placements, companies that want experienced professionals prefer IIMB, IIMA is visited by companies because of its strong alumni list, and IIMC is preferred by the Banking Sector because of the perception that its students are more quantitatively oriented.

The three of them receive almost the same companies during placements. So for a candidate seeking good career opportunities in a certain field, all three IIMs are equally good. It is just that each one has a certain image associated with its brand, and ranks accordingly in the preference lists of recruiters.

Almost all students of both institutes IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta are placed so there isn’t much difference.
Moreover, the median packages are similar proving that the placement scenario is similar.

So I don’t think there is much difference between the placement scenarios at IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta.

How is SPJIMR's placement report better than IIMs including IIM Calcutta and as good as IIM Ahmedabad (both Average and Median)?

Here are a few possible reasons why SPJIMR placements are better than or equally good as IIMs

SPJIMR has a much smaller batch size in comparison to IIMs and thus the average rises.
SPJIMR has a very rigorous selection process that filters the best students and the recruiters are well aware of this.
SPJIMR enjoys a great location maximizing the exposure and opportunities rendered to the students.
The students perform exceptionally well in the placement interviews and thus secure high packages.

It's important to note that these reasons are just based on speculations and it cannot be exactly determined why some placements are better than others.

IMI Kolkata students are placed in reputable firms in Kolkata, where the placement rate is high. The actual placement rate, however, may change from year to year and may also rely on elements like the general state of the economy and the industries in which the students are most interested. But for the year 2021-2022, it has offered 100 percent placements in its college.

Some of the prominent participating companies were JSW, Jaro, Nivea, RBI, Deloitte, ICICI, McVitie’s among many others. Top job profiles include Sales Manager, Senior Manager, Team Leader, Tax Consultant, and Business Analyst.

My friend is a PGPEX alumnus and claims that the program helped him double the salary he receives from his regular MBA. The ‘X’ in the program often is a source of hesitation for many prospective students ao it’s better the programs get the hype they deserve.

As far as choosing between IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore is concerned, I would recommend you go for the latter. IIM Bangalore has a better placement scenario and also has common classes across the institute in elective terms giving you a wider peer network. IIM Ahmedabad on the other hand has a bit of a location disadvantage and the exposure offered is nothing compared to Bangalore.

All three are great names. Different cultures exist in each location. Even though the recruiters are mostly the same, your ability to get on shortlists relies a lot on how you compare to other students in your class. It's more important to look at how good your profile is compared to other people's than to pay attention to the agents who come to your college.

IIM Ahmedabad has a much wider range of academic backgrounds, IIMB has a much higher average number of years of work experience, and IIMC will have more people with very high CAT scores but slightly lower academic histories. For example, IIMC is better for placements if you don't have great grades and didn't go to one of the best undergraduate schools. If you want to work in finance but don't have much experience in the field, IIMA might not be the best option for you.

How good is placement at ISB, Hyderabad compared to IIMs (since number of students are much more in ISB, leading to tough competition)?

When comparing the placements of the two, ISB and IIMs, the batch size hardly matters because both institutes market different products. The background and profiles of students of both institutes are too versatile to draw comparisons. If I roughly divide the ISB students and the kind of placement scenario they face then

90% of students get their dream jobs in the desired sector and company
10% of the students get jobs that are below their expectations but not worse enough to forgo the offers

So the batch size does not matter here and ISB Hyderabad placements are themselves quite satisfactory.

Does IIM Calcutta have 100% Placement?

Yes, IIM Calcutta has recorded 100% placement record (for the MBA batch). There were a total of 529 offers made. The highest package which was offered to one of the students- 1.2 crore per year. The highest recruitment sector was Counsulting Sector with 31.6% placements.
