The University of Washington is one of the top public universities in the U.S., known for its competitive admissions and strong programs in tech, business, and engineering.

  • Acceptance Rate: 41.7% overall | 35.6% for international students
  • Main Intake for UG (International): Autumn (September–December) only
  • UG Application Deadline (Autumn 2027): November 15, 2026
  • Popular PG Deadlines (Autumn 2027): Mostly between November 2026 and January 2027 (passed for 2026 intakes) | From December 2026 -Early January 2027 (tentative)
  • Admission Decision (tentative): Late February to mid-March for most master’s programs | March 1 to March 15, 2027, for bachelor’s programs.

The University of Washington follows a quarter system (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer), but for international undergraduate students, Autumn is the only practical intake for both UG and graduate programs. It is due to visa timelines and the availability of programs.

The university requires the following academic qualifications from the applicants:

  • Undergraduate students: Senior Secondary school completion with scores equivalent to 70%-85%+ in the Indian 12th grade
  • Graduate students: 4-year Bachelor’s degree with GPA equivalent to 65%–90%+
  • Minimum English scores requirements: IELTS 6.5 | TOEFL 4.0 (80 if taken before Jan 21, 2026) | Duolingo 110 (for both undergraduate and graduate students)

The university maintains a holistic yet competitive admission process, with strong emphasis on academics, essays, and program-specific requirements.

Current Admission Scenario: The application for any of the 2026 quarters/intakes is closed for both UG and PG. Students should prepare to apply for the Autumn 2027 intake. Tentative deadlines are mentioned in the article based on the past trends.

Note: All the currency conversions follow the rate of $1=₹92.91.

Infographic outlining the admission process at the University of Washington: step-by-step flow from preparing documents, submitting the $90 application via the UW portal, waiting for March decisions, accepting the offer and requesting I-20, to applying for an F-1 visa. It also highlights Autumn-only intake for bachelor’s programs and multiple intakes for master’s programs, set against a campus background with Mount Rainier.

Intakes at the University of Washington, Seattle

At the University of Washington, quarters instead of semesters are available as terms. The 4 intakes for the students at UW, Seattle:

  • Fall Quarter (September–December)
  • Winter Quarter (January–March)
  • Spring Quarter (March–June)
  • Summer Quarter (Mid June-August/September)

Winter and spring quarters are not available for first-year international students. The summer quarter has fewer programs and tighter deadlines for international students. Thus, Autumn is the only realistic and widely available intake for new Indian undergrad students.

Winter and Spring are rarely offered or recommended for new F-1 students because visa processing from India can take 3–6+ months.

Overview

I did not have any. I applied to uw not from abroad but from the USA since I live here! Nope. UW didnt require us to have any interviews- we just used the common application to apply to University of Washington and you got responses in March. Its close by- so I can drive to UW and come back and save money on staying on campus. Since I'm on the pre med track. uw is a great school for that and has its own med school I hope to attend! I have heard that a lot of students use this app called Handshake to get jobs and o have heard its useful. I know some family who graduated from uw and got a job at SPACEX Overall its quite an experience! Its difficult but you have to expect it to be that way. Uw is a top school for stem!

Scholarship

I did receive 1500$ one time for my studies and I had to write down an essay and talk about my community service I have done.

Overview

The first thing I thought about when choosing a college was its marching band. In high school, I was a member of a core-style marching band. Every year we would spend weeks before school started at band camp to pour our efforts into a unique performance. We competed with other high schools and had tons of fun. Marching band was the highlight of my high school career, and I knew I had to keep being involved. The UW stood out to me for this reason. On top of its great location and academic prowess, it has one of the most entertaining college bands in the country. I applied for 3 other schools in Washington, but I knew this was my first choice. Luckily, my high school prepared me well for the application process and I was not worried. With a 3.8 GPA and AP test scores, I was sure to be accepted. Getting into the UW was exciting because I knew I would continue to pursue my musical interests as well as my academic ones.

Overview

It is a very highly respected college. My parents always wanted me to go to this college, and it is close to home. People who go to this college are able to obtain employment easily because they tend to be highly educated.

Scholarship

Yes if you would like scholarships they can be granted to you depending on your academic achievements. Another way is to apply for scholarships that are unique to you or your demographic. I have federal student loans that I got by applying for FAFSA, they are low interest and you do not pay until you graduate. I also receive financial aid from sally May.

Overview

Because I got in. Originally, I had planned to transfer to Western Washington University. However, after a campus visit to UW, I was in love (like many) with the campus and decided I at least wanted to apply. After hearing back, I decided I wanted to give it a shot.

Scholarship

Yes. I received a scholarship from the Department of Communications for my journalism experience. I received the scholarship by first applying online, and then found out I was selected as a recipient and was required to attend an award ceremony.
