What are the latest practices you have implemented in your institute which will help students outperform and stand apart from the crowd?
CMR College of Engineering & Technology has implemented several practices over the years to enhance our student’s learning experience. We have a skill-specific training program that aims to refine the students' technical and soft skills. To help students survive in the workplace, we emphasize building logical and analytical reasoning skills and also hold resume-building sessions. Our extensive professional network regularly visits our college to talk with our students and to provide insights about the industry. Besides learning essential presentation skills, we also provide basic IT training for non-CSE students by teaching programming languages from basics to advanced.
What are the factors that make this program the best for the students to opt?
There are numerous factors that contribute to the success of our program. From a team of well-trained and experienced faculty to a modern curriculum, we have it all. We even provide strong mentorship assistance and guidance that is excellent for students to get one on one support. The faculty regularly follow-ups with the students to identify their areas of problems and improvement. The university has formulated a well-structured plan for additional training for the Management, Principal & HODs and TPO so that everyone can keep upgrading themselves to provide the very best to the students. Moreover, we have awareness and orientation sessions for career guidance and industry expert sessions where students can ask career-related questions.

What will you say the “best practices” for the students who are preparing for placements?
As students prepare for placements, there are several pointers they should keep in mind to be competitive and stand out from others. Being systematic and setting proper goals should be the starting point. Prepare a plan, during the duration of the course, to improve technical skills necessary for the chosen industry. IT students must pay attention to their knowledge of recent technology changes and focus on topics like web development, data science, blockchain and cybersecurity. Read the latest industry publications and attend webinars. To enhance resumes, take part in projects in an area of interest which over time can build up to a portfolio. Finally, it is important to take mock interviews with friends or with a mentor at the department to help build confidence and communication skills.
How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?
Our program primarily ensures our students are prepared for their future by inculcating fundamental skills in them that the industry demands. There is immense competition for jobs and employers expect candidates with the best acumen and aptitude. The skills taught in our program, increase the chances of our students to stand out and get their desired job. Even after they are selected, our students can perform better and are quick to achieve success. Students who have completed the program are confident to take on any challenge and have a lifelong love for education.
What are the types of projects that the students are working on through this program?
The team at CMR College of Engineering & Technology organizes and provides opportunities for our students to participate while completing their studies. They have taken part in hackathons and other technology-related projects. These projects give them a taste of real-world issues they might encounter when working. They get exposure to tools and get to practice what they learn in the class. Besides developing a multitude of soft skills, our students are job ready and are better outfitted for the trials of the industry.
What was the most challenging task in preparing the students for placements?
Probably the most challenging task when preparing students for placements is time. Students find it hard to find extra time between classes, projects and assignments to focus on training. Many students also do not have realistic expectations about their salaries, which can differ greatly depending on their skill set and experience level. Additionally, it is hard to convince students to move or relocate for good job opportunities as they find it hard to navigate out of their comfort zone. Our team has worked hard to tackle these issues head-on. We try to give a bit of tough love and tell them about the realities of the job market. We are always there to provide support and advice to students to ensure they get the best.

What is your vision for CMR Group in the next five years?
Our goal, as a university, is to be recognized and a formidable name in the education sector over the next five years. We want the top companies to visit our campus for placements. Our team is working to design our curriculum to be well-rounded that will prepare the students for dynamic roles. The students will receive skill training, both soft and technical, through workshops and projects. We are committed to creating an environment of innovation and entrepreneurship at the campus by providing ample resources and encouragement. We would want to create a large network of CMR group graduates who are highly respected and successful professionals in their field.
Please share your valuable suggestions for students preparing for placements.
I would suggest students to make their preparation process for interviews company-specific. Look up information on the company, its policies, values and vision before attending the interview. Have a good understanding of the entire interview process and all its stages. Be presentable and well-groomed. Practice is the key to nailing placement interviews. Take time out every day to brush up on technical knowledge and have mock interviews.
