I am a student of IIT Gandhinagar and I can say that the CSE department is one of the best departments in terms of curriculums and placements. IIT Gandhinagar offers 4 years full-time BTech program for CSE. The average course fee for the first year is around INR 2.29 Lakhs . IIT Gandhinagar holds a ranking of 18th position out of 200 colleges in the NIRF ranking. The placement scenario for the department is good with 94.44% of students being placed in 2023 The median package is INR 25.06 LPA and the average package is INR 29.29 LPA.Read more

Ques. How is a dual degree in mechanical engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar in comparison with NIT Surat (SVNIT) mechanical engineering?

Ans. I pursued my B.Tech Mechanical from SVNIT, thus, I can only comment on my college. The faculty of the mechanical department is top notch. Majority of our teachers are highly driven. It is because of them that mechanical is the most famous branch of our college. Our teachers emphasize practical knowledge over mere theoretical understanding. Many of them have more than 10 years of experience in teaching. The department has enough professors, so very few courses are taken by TAs. The faculty is very helpful for projects and research work. The curriculum for B.Tech Mechanical is very rich, and you’ll get to choose one elective per semester in the 3rd and 4th year. You can choose courses from other branches as well. You can choose management courses, programming courses, physics related courses, automobile courses, etc. SVNIT is probably the only college that teaches its students topics like Mechatronics, Computational fluid mechanics (CFD), Cryogenics, etc. at the UG level itself.  Unfortunately, like most other colleges, our practical syllabus and lab equipment needs to be upgraded. The labs do not contain equipment of the latest technology. The workshop contains all conventional and non conventional machines like lathe, shoper, milling, grinding, welding, abrasive jet machine, EDM, 3-D printer, etc. As far as B.Tech Mechanical at SVNIT is concerned, I would say it is quite a decent option.Read more

Ques. Should I prefer IIIT Bangalore CSE or SVNIT CSE?

Ans. IIIT Bangalore CSE is an outstanding choice in every aspect. It is way better than SVNIT CSE. But there is a drawback to IIITB. It only offers a 5 year integrated program (B.Tech + M.Tech). I have a few friends at IIIT Bangalore, and according to them, a B.Tech is always better than an iM.Tech.  Regardless, IIITB CSE is way ahead. You should definitely consider it, especially if the high fee is not a concern for you.Read more

Ans. During the 2022 placement season, out of 106 registered B.Tech CSE students, 94 were successfully placed from the SVNIT campus. The highest package offered was 44 LPA, the average package was 15.22 LPA, and the minimum package was 5.56 LPA. As for M.Tech CSE, 20 students were successfully placed during the placement drive. The highest package offered was 31 LPA, the average package was 15.88 LPA, and the lowest package was 7.50 LPA.  The top recruiters of SVNIT are- Adobe, Amazon, Samsung, JP Morgan, Infosys, Jio, GEP, Axis Bank, Deloitte, Godrej, Accenture, TCS, Airtel, Mathworks and Bigbasket, among others.Read more

Ans. I am a resident of Surat, and SVNIT is very close to my house. During my college admissions, I was in the same dilemma. So I spent about a week at both the colleges to make a more informed choice. One of the professors at SVNIT suggested that I opt for B.Tech ICT at DAIICT over Computer Engineering at SVNIT. He told me that DAIICT is a better option for computer related branches. Here are some pros of joining DAIICT as a B.Tech ICT student- The placements at DAIICT are comparatively better. Though the NITs have an established brand name, the reputation of DAIICT is better than SVNIT in top companies like Amazon, Morgan Stanley, MAQ, etc. It has a greater number of GSoC qualifiers, and a better environment for Open Source Coding. The environment is superior for competitive coding as well, and students participate in great numbers in online programming contests on platforms like codeforces, etc. A large number of students prepare for exams like GRE, CAT, etc. Thus, a B.Tech ICT at DAIICT is better in comparison to Computer Engineering at SVNIT.Read more
