New Delhi: The National Law University (NLU) Delhi held its tenth convocation on August 17, 2023. The university conferred 167 degrees on graduating students, including 6 PhDs, 78 LLMs, and 83 BA LLBs.
Ranjan Gogoi, the Chief Justice of India, attended as the event's chief guest, according to NLU Delhi. The Chief Justice greeted everyone in attendance during his convocation speech, praising Professor Upendra Baxi, Dean of the Faculty of Law, in particular, for his accomplishments.
He advised the recent grads to keep in mind "that there are no shortcuts in life" and to resist being persuaded by big business. He urged them to maintain an open mind since "a lawyer's mind is open."
Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, served as the honorary special guest.
13 former students were also recognised by the university for noteworthy achievements, such as passing the civil services and judicial examinations and receiving fellowships from reputable international institutions.
Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister of Delhi, Justice D. N. Patel, the chief justice of the Delhi High Court, Mr Vijay Kumar Dev, the chief secretary of the Delhi government, and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw were among the honorees.
According to news agency PTI, the institution has called several press reports that one of the top students boycotted the convocation to protest the Chief Justice "incorrect."
In a press release to the PTI, the vice chancellor of NLU said, "As a university, we are highly perturbed over this instance as it had caused an unnecessary inconvenience to the CJI (Ranjan Gogoi)."
According to numerous news sources, one of the top students, Surbhi Karwa, skipped the convocation in protest of how the Supreme Court handled a complaint of sexual harassment brought by a former employee against the Chief Justice.
