BHMS admissions now allow open school/private candidates and remove PCB percentage criteria. Candidates no longer need to score 50% (general), 45% (PwD), or 40% (SC/ST/OBC) in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in Class 12.

The central government has introduced significant changes to the admission criteria and academic framework for the Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) course under the revised National Commission for Homoeopathy Regulations, 2022. These amendments aim to increase accessibility for medical aspirants and streamline the program's curriculum and evaluation.

Key Admission Relaxations

  • Percentage Requirement: No requirement of obtaining 50% (general), 45% (PwD), and 40% (SC/ST/OBC) marks in Class 12 in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Passing senior secondary exam with the said subjects is enough.
  • Eligibility for Open School and Private Candidates: Open School and Private Candidates are now eligible for the BHMS course after their completion of education through open schooling or private board exams.
  • Mandatory Data Sharing: The state and central admission authorities have to share student data with the National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH).

Curriculum and Teaching Changes

The revised rules emphasize foundational subjects while reducing focus on specialized courses.

Subject Previous Hours Revised Hours
Homoeopathic Materia Medica 180 250
Homoeopathic Philosophy 180 250
Pharmacology 144 108
Surgery 180 144
Gynecology and Obstetrics 180 144

Changes in Assessment

  • Exam Retakes: Failing in either theory or practical exams will now result in failing the entire subject, requiring students to retake both parts.
  • Comprehensive Evaluation: Summative assessments at the university level will cover the complete syllabus of the respective academic year.
  • Removal of Relative Weightage: Parameters like innovation and problem definition depth are no longer part of elective course evaluations.

Internship and Other Updates

  • Obtaining a provisional degree certificate is no longer mandatory for joining the Compulsory Rotatory Internship.
  • There has been an increase in accountability for monitoring admissions and bringing academic procedures into line with the competency-based dynamic curriculum (CBDC).

AYUSH Admission Process

Homoeopathy is one of six disciplines under AYUSH, with admissions managed by the Ayush Admissions Central Counselling Committee (AACCC) at the central level while states handle seats placed under their respective organisations.

Note: These changes aim to make BHMS more inclusive and ensure that homeopathy students are equipped with a strong foundational knowledge while streamlining assessments and internships.
