The Government of Odisha is silent on the question of the conduct of annual board exams 2021. The Board of Secondary Education (BSE) and the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) has not finalized the schedule for board exams 2021.
Following this, students and parents are worried about the uncertainty of the conduct of board exams. As per sources, more than 10 lakh students are worried about the annual exams.
Along with the uncertainty over the conduct of exams, students being unable to attend offline classes have also pushed them back in terms of preparation. While online classes have become pointless for practical subjects as they serve very little purpose for such subjects.
Students are worried if the exams are not conducted then their education may take a backlog for a couple of months and will be stuck with the current academic year. Parents have also suggested the government to hold the annual exams in the next year.

Prakash Chandra Mohanty, Secretary of Odisha Secondary School Teachers Association (OSSTA) has proposed to conduct the annual exams in the month of May or June.
As the Covid cases are decreasing and if the schools are reopened in the month of January then the Government must take any final decision as it will not be possible for the boards to hold the exam in the month of February or March.
Normally, the board exams for Class 10th and 12th are conducted in the month of February and March, but the students need at least 3-4 month time to prepare for the exams. Although online teaching is continued, the practical classes need physical teaching.
This will only be possible if the schools are reopened and the mock tests are conducted for the students.
The boards have suggested a tentative schedule for the exams in the month of October, following the notice issued in the month of September but there is no final say in it.
Various Headmasters and Principals are suggesting the same and have asked the government to give students time to prepare for the exams and reopen the schools.
The Government has organised an effortless online teaching portal, but rural students cannot access it because of the lack of smartphones and internet connectivity. Some of the urban students are also not able to attend the online classes due to lack of internet data.
The School and Mass Media education Minister has remarked after these conflicts that the boards will surely give students time to be exam ready and schools will be opened for 2-3 months for the teachers to prepare them accordingly.
