Students who opted for Mathematics (Standard) can opt for Mathematics as a subject in Class 11, while students who opted for Mathematics (Basic) can offer Applied Mathematics in Class 11.

CBSE Allows Class 10 Students of Basic Math to Take Standard Math in Class 11

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) released a circular on May 02, 2024, detailing the offering of Mathematics as a subject in Class 11 for the academic year 2024- 25. In the circular, the CBSE allowed CBSE Class 10 to opt for the subject of Mathematics (subject code 041) only if they opted for the Mathematics (Standard) subject in Class 10. 

As per a circular in 2019, CBSE introducted two different level of Mathematics for students, which was implemented from March 2020 onwards. The Mathematics (Standard) level (subject code: 041) was for students who wished to pursue Mathematics as a subject in Class 11 and Class 12. The Mathematics (Basic) level (subject code: 241) was for students who do not wish to prusue Mathematics after Class 10. 

For the acadmeic year 2024-25, only Class 10 students who opted for Mathematics (Standard) will be able to opt for the subject of Mathematics in Class 11. Those who opted for Mathematics (Basic) in Class 10 will only be able to opt for the Applied Mathematics subject. A similiar exemption has also taken place before due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The circular also added, “However, it has also been decided for the students of Class X of 2024-2025 sessions that once, subjects were filled in by them in LOC, no change in the offered/filled-in subject(s) will be allowed and the policy dated 10th January, 2019 will be strictly followed.”

The CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 results will tentatively be released after May 20, 2024. The results will be released on the official website at cbseresults.nic.in.
