DU to Consider Keeping labs and Classrooms of all its affiliated colleges and departments Open Until 8 PM. The Professors are raising objections by saying it is an impractical decision.

New Delhi: Delhi University has released a notification that all of its affiliated colleges and departments are set to keep their classrooms and laboratories open on all working days from 8 AM to 8 PM. However, a lot of teachers have recently voiced their concerns regarding the notification.
Delhi University has taken this decision in order to make the most use of its resources. In addition, universities and departments must submit a report on the actions they have taken by May 31, 2023. According to the updated DU announcement, the university has changed the hours in accordance with the UGC's (University Grants Commission) regulations in order to increase the students' access to all resources.
The University Grants Commission requested that central universities and higher educational institutions (HEIs) must take the necessary steps to implement the UGC Guidelines for Optimal Utilisation of Resources Available in Central Universities/HEIs in order to extend the benefits to undergraduate and graduate students and researchers in its communication D.O. No. F.13-10/2022 (CU) dated January 11, 2023, issued by the Secretary, UGC.
Shortly after the release of the DU notification, several teachers voiced their worries and deemed the notification to be a little impractical. After NEP, there will be a wide variety of papers provided, necessitating a wider timetable; nevertheless, the 8 to 8 rules have a flaw in that students cannot expect to remain on campus for very long. The teachers questioned where students would study if no library can handle more than 100 students.
According to a statement from the AAP teachers' group, Academic for Action and Development Delhi Teachers' Association, the second tranche of the OBC expansion plan has been delayed, there aren't enough resources for the EWS expansion, and 40% of classes are now offered online, The latest report reveals that a lecturer from Ramjas College remarked the notification as impractical.
Meanwhile, Tanvir Aeijaz, an associate professor in the political science department at Ramjas College, stated that DU needs to consider students when making a decision like this. It is impossible to decide to work from 8 AM to 8 PM. A justification for a choice like this is required, he said.
