Duolingo English Test Scores Accepted for UG and PG Admissions by More Than 5000 Universities Worldwide

New Delhi: The Duolingo English Test (DET) score is now acknowledged by more than 5,000 universities globally. This test, designed with the test taker in mind, is a recognised and respected language proficiency assessment for admission into undergraduate and postgraduate programs across various countries such as the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and Ireland.

In the year 2023, individuals from over 225 countries and regions certified their English proficiency through this test. India, for the second consecutive year, saw the highest number of test-takers, with a significant proportion aspiring to pursue graduate degrees in popular fields like business, computer science, mathematics, and engineering. Interestingly, Indian students applied to programs in more than 83 countries, marking a 9% increase from the previous year.

Jennifer Dewar, Senior Director of Strategic Engagement at Duolingo English Test (DET), expressed, "The remarkable achievement of DET being embraced by over 5,000 institutions globally signifies not just a shift in language proficiency testing but a significant stride towards inclusivity and student empowerment." She emphasized that when students have the option to choose a test that suits them in terms of format, availability, or cost, it ensures that language proficiency testing becomes a bridge, rather than a barrier, to achieving their academic aspirations.

Dewar added, "This accomplishment is a testament to our collective commitment to making education accessible, and we express our gratitude to universities worldwide for championing this transformative journey with us." Since 2020, the number of programs recognizing DET has doubled, showcasing a substantial shift towards a student-centric approach to admissions. Notably, 99% of programs that adopted DET before January 2021 continue to accept it, underscoring the enduring commitment to reliability, accuracy, flexibility, and student choice, according to an official statement.

The broadened recognition of language proficiency assessments carries significant implications for educational institutions. Embracing a wider array of tests enables universities to appeal to a more diverse group of applicants, thereby cultivating a global and inclusive learning environment.
