IIT Roorkee has ended the GATE 2025 February 1 Shift 2 exam at 5.30 PM. The shift 2 exam is for CS2, NM, MT, TF and IN papers. Based on the inital reaction, the Shift 2 papers were moderately difficult. The paper analysis and memory-based question paper are released here soon after the exam based on the initial reactions.

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2025 is scheduled to be conducted on February 1, 2, 15, and 16, 2025. The exam will be held in two shifts: Morning (9:30 AM – 12:30 PM) and Afternoon (2:30 PM – 5:30 PM). IIT Roorkee, the conducting authority, has issued important guidelines for candidates to ensure a smooth GATE 2025 exam.

Negative Marking in GATE 2025

There is NO negative marking in NAT and MSQ questions. However, each incorrect answer to MCQ will lead to a deduction in marks. The table below covers the negative marking criteria for MCQ questions in GATE 2025 paper:

Candidates are advised to carefully follow all exam-day guidelines and prepare efficiently to perform well in GATE 2025.

GATE 2025 Exam Day Guidelines

  • Reporting Time: Candidates must reach the exam center at least 60 minutes before the exam starts.
  • Entry Restrictions: Latecomers arriving more than 30 minutes after the exam begins will not be allowed to log in.
  • Seating Arrangement: Candidates must occupy their allotted seats at least 40 minutes before the exam.
  • Instructions Review: The login process and instructions review must begin 20 minutes before the exam commences.
  • Early Exit Restrictions: No candidate will be allowed to leave the exam hall before the exam ends without invigilator permission.

Required Documents for GATE 2025 Exam

  • Candidates must carry the following documents to the exam center:
  • A hard copy of the GATE 2025 admit card (released on January 7, 2025).
  • A valid photo ID proof (Aadhar card, driving license, passport, PAN card, etc.).
  • If the photograph on the admit card or ID proof is unclear, candidates must carry two passport-size photographs.

Prohibited Items Inside the Exam Hall

  • To maintain fairness and security, candidates must not carry:
  • Electronic devices (mobile phones, smartwatches, earphones, calculators, etc.).
  • Jewelry, accessories, bags, and personal belongings.
  • Only the required documents and a pen are permitted inside the hall.

Familiarization with the Virtual Calculator

A virtual scientific calculator will be provided on-screen during the exam. Candidates are advised to practice using the virtual calculator in mock tests to avoid confusion.

Is there any sectional time limit in GATE exam 2025?

No, there is no sectional time limit in GATE 2025 exam. The exam duration is 3 hours for all papers.

GATE 2025 Negative Marking

In GATE 2025, negative marking applies to MCQ-type questions, whereas MSQs and NATs have no negative marking. The negative marking for MCQs is:

  • 1-Mark Questions: For every wrong answer, there is a deduction of 1/3 mark.
  • 2-Mark Questions: For every wrong answer, there is a deduction of 2/3 mark.
GATE 2025 Result Date

IIT Roorkee is expected to release the results of GATE 2025 on 19th March 2025. It usually comes within 3 to 4 weeks from the exam ends. Candidates who appeared for the exam can download the GATE scorecard PDF from the official website between March 28, 2025, and May 31, 2025.
