GATE GOAPS stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering – Online Application Processing System. GOAPS Portal is active at goaps.iitg.ac.in. GOAPS or GATE Login is used for all the major processes such as:

GATE 2026 application has started on the official website, through the GOAPS Portal – goaps.iitg.ac.in. The registration is open from August 28 to September 28, 2025 with regular fees, and till October 9, 2025, with late fees.

GATE 2026 registration last date is September 28, 2025, for the regular period, without any late fees. However, you can register till October 9, 2025, with an additional late fee of Rs 500 over the application fee.

The number of registered candidates has increased from 8,26,000 in 2024 to 9,36,000 in GATE 2025, showing a major increase in the total candidates registered. In 2025, around 7,47,319 candidates appeared, of whom around 80% of the candidates registered for the exam.

This year, the number of registrations for GATE 2026 is expected to increase to 10 lakhs.

IIT Guwahati has introduced two changes to GATE 2026.

• GATE 2026 registration fee has been increased by Rs 100 for Female/SC/ST/PwD candidates and Rs 200 for General candidates per paper. 
  • Female/SC/ST/PwD Candidates:
    • Rs 1,000 per paper (regular)
    • Rs 1,500 per paper (late)
  • All Other Candidates:
    • Rs 2,000 per paper (regular)
    • Rs 2,500 per paper (late)

• A new sectional paper on Energy Science (XE-I) is introduced in the Engineering Sciences (XE) paper.

No, there is no age restriction to appear for GATE 2026. As long as you meet the GATE eligibility, you can appear for the exam multiple times.

• Female/SC/ST/PwD Candidates:
  • Rs 1,000 per paper (regular)

GATE 2026 Registration process will be conducted online on the official website of GOAPS. GATE 2026 Application dates will start from 28 August 2025 and will continue till 28 September 2025. GATE 2026 registration step-by-step guidelines are given below:

• Registration: Visit the official website and register on the GOAPS website using your name, email ID, mobile number, and create a password.
• Fill Out Application Form: Fill in your personal details, academic qualifications, the subject you want to appear for, exam city preference, etc.
• Document Upload: Upload scanned copies of the photograph, signature, eligibility proof, and category/PwD certificates.
• Fee Payment: Pay the registration fees online using a Debit/Credit card, UPI, or net banking.
• Submission: Before the final submission, review the details on the application, and download the confirmation page for future use.

IIT Guwahati is scheduled to conduct the GATE 2026 exam on 7th & 8th February and 14th & 15th February. The exam will be held in two sessions:

• Forenoon Session from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM
• Afternoon Session from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM

You must first register on the GOAPS portal – goaps.iitg.ac.in for GATE 2026. You must ahve a valid email ID, mobile number for registration. The detailed step-by-step procedure to register is as follows

• Step 1 - Open the official website of GATE
• Step 2 - Click on the “New Candidate Registration” link
• Step 3 - Enter the required information
• Step 4 - Create a password of your choice
• Step 5 - Click on the “Submit” button to complete the registration process

After the completion of registration, you will receive an email at your registered email ID and a message on your mobile with the GATE 2026 enrollment ID/number and password. 

GATE 2026 will be conducted for 30 test papers. GATE syllabus 2026 for each test paper is divided into sections, including General Aptitude and Domain Subjects. A total of 65 questions will be asked from the GATE syllabus – 10 from General Aptitude and 55 from Domain subjects.

IIT Guwahati has postponed the GATE exam registration date 2026. Now, the revised GATE 2026 application date is August 28, 2025. The registration link will be active on the GOAPS portal on the official website – gate2026.iitg.ac.in.

• GATE 2026 registration last date is September 28, 2025, for the regular period and October 9, 2025, for the extended period.

You will receive the GATE 2026 enrollment ID and password after the registration is complete. 

In case you lose or forget the GATE 2026 login credentials, you must follow the steps below for recovery:

• Go to the homepage of GOAPS Portal – goaps.iitg.ac.in.
• Click 'Forget GATE 2026 Enrollment / Registration ID’
• If you remember the registered email ID, but not the enrollment/registration ID, then press 'Request for OTP.'
• If you already have an OTP, select 'Already have an OTP?' to recover the password.

Yes, there is negative marking in GATE 2026 for MCQs. There is no negative or partial marking in MSQ or NAT questions. 

• For a wrong answer chosen in an MCQ, there will be negative marking.
  • For a 1-mark MCQ, 1/3 marks will be deducted for a wrong answer.
  • For a 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 marks will be deducted for a wrong answer.
• There is no negative marking for wrong answer(s) to MSQ or NAT questions.
• There is no partial marking in MSQ.

GATE 2026 will be conducted for 30 test papers. Every candidate is allowed to select either one or two test papers. The secondary paper must be selected from the Two-Paper Combination provided on the IIT Guwahati GATE 2026 official website – gate2026.iitg.ac.in.

IIT Guwahati has increased the GATE 2025 application fees. Now the registration fee is – 

• Regular Period (August 28 to September 28, 2025): Rs 1000 for female/SC/ST/PwD and Rs 2000 for other candidates 
• Extended Period (September 29 to October 09, 2025): Rs 1500 for female/SC/ST/PwD and Rs 2500 for other candidates 

GATE 2026 exam dates are the same. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 will be held on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2025. The exam will be held in two shifts:

• Forenoon - 9:30 am to 12:30 pm

No, GATE 2026 will not be conducted in any exam centers outside India. All exam centers are allotted inside India, in various States. Foreign nationals, as well as Indians residing abroad, must select GATE exam centers within India. Registered candidates must make accommodations to appear for the exam at the assigned exam center in India.

Yes! GATE Score of a candidate is valid for at least 3 years from the date of result announcement. Candidates can use their GATE Score for admission into top IITs, PSUs, and other participating universities for 3 years after the result declaration.

GATE 2026 Exam is expected to be of a moderate difficulty level, based on GATE 2025 trends:

• The CSE and ECE exams are expected to be of a moderate difficulty level due to a high level of NAT Questions.
• The Civil and Mechanical Engineering exam will be based on concepts, but will be comparatively easier.
• The General Aptitude exam is expected to be easy to moderate.

No! The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) exam is held once a year, not twice. It is conducted on a rotational basis by IISc Bangalore and 7 IITs. The GATE exam is scheduled for two consecutive weekends in February every year.
