New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) with the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) entered into an agreement to jointly develop an Open and Distance Learning (ODL) program. On April 24, 2023, a deal was executed at CMA Bhawan in New Delhi.
The joint IGNOU & ICMAI course will be titled "Diploma in Agricultural Cost Management."
According to a notification from the university, the purpose of the agreement is to create awareness and human resources in the field of agriculture cost control.
It aims to provide knowledge, and skills, and encourage entrepreneurship among farming communities to facilitate successful farm cost control.
In its statements, the university added that the grant programme will benefit innovative agriculturalists, urban and rural young people small and medium-sized business owners, extension workers, NGO educators, and self-help organisations.
IGNOU Vice-Chancellor Sumitra Kukreti, Registrar Umesh Chand Pandey, and IGNOU faculty member Mukesh Kumar from the School of Agriculture were present.
DP Nandy, senior director in IGNOU, extended a warm welcome to the event's attendees, and Praveen Kumar Jain provided an overview of the agreement and informed all parties that a diploma programme will be produced under the terms of the agreement.
The university's registrar, UC Pandey, stated, "Considering the large target audience, IGNOU is the ideal institution for giving such courses, and the course will be provided through its wide range of student assistance centres.
"Farmers must be given the necessary training in the field of agribusiness. Authorities will also benefit from the curriculum," according to Prof. S K Yadav.
"The MoU will be a ground-breaking effort for empowering farmers. Various colleges and universities will be interested in signing up their students for this initiative. Farmers, rural youth, agricultural experts, and those working in the industry will all benefit from this curriculum," according to a statement from IGNOU.
The pro-vice-chancellor of the university, Kukreti, praised both university officials and the ICMAI, stating that this is a historic moment for both institutions.
