IIM Calcutta's Financial Research and Trading Laboratory is Hosting Research Summer School 2023 till May 9

New Delhi: The Financial Research and Trade laboratory of Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Calcutta is currently hosting a Research Summer School 2023 for Faculty and Doctoral Students of Finance and Accounting between April 30 and May 9, 2023. 

The FRTL, IIM Calcutta is hosting the 8th Research Summer School on Empirical Finance and Accounting Research. This eleven-day programme will consist of ten days of online and offline instruction. 

The participants will be exposed to academic research papers from famous publications in the domains of accounting, finance, and governance throughout these ten-day courses. 

The IIM Calcutta faculty has selected these papers because they cover intriguing research challenges and put an emphasis on sound technique and verifiable empirical results.

Candidates can attend the eleven-day session, which is primarily for faculty members and doctoral students in the fields of finance, accounting, and corporate governance, if they have initially registered for the research summer school in 2023 till April 8, 2023. 

Since the summer school program is residential, all the participants will be provided accommodation in a twin-sharing, AC double room on the IIM Calcutta campus, along with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and light refreshments.

IIM Calcutta Research Summer School 2023: Project Work 

• In one of the three focus areas, each participant will explore a project.
• Each participant will share their choice of one or two emphasis areas, two research questions, and a one-page explanation of each of these research questions in advance.
• The research question for each participant's team project will be decided by May 4 (under the direction of their faculty mentor).
• Teams will complete the task and produce an entire paper.
• Teams will submit an intermediate draft and give an online presentation (through Zoom) within 30 days of the session's conclusion (Saturday, June 10, 2023) to get feedback and suggestions on their work. The comments and ideas will be incorporated into their paper.
• All the teams will deliver the first draft of a finished manuscript for assessment within 30 days of the presentation.

IIM Calcutta Research Summer School 2023: Structure 

There'll be five segments that will make up the summer school:

• Research instruments for accounting, finance, and governance using applied econometrics
• The Craft of Writing & Publishing Papers for Literature Reviews
• Focus Regions
• Finance (Asset Pricing, Market Microstructure, and Corporate Finance)
• Financial reporting, earnings management, and tax research are all parts of accounting.
• Corporate Governance: Business Groups, CEO Compensation, and Auditing
• Project Work Paper Writing & Submission Project Presentation on Zoom

Meanwhile, there will be a one-day online presentation on June 10, 2023 and the participants will have to submit the completed manuscripts by July 10, 2023. 

IIM Calcutta Research Summer School 2023: Key Takeaways

After the successful completion of the programme, participants will be able to recognise the appropriate research questions and comprehend how to position a theme, learn about various research and methodological issues, test hypotheses empirically and learn the craft of producing a paper and writing it.
