IIM Ranchi welcomed Mr. Didier Talpain, the French general consul in Kolkata at the permanent campus on June 7, 2023.

New Delhi: Mr. Didier Talpain, the general consul of France in Kolkata, was welcomed to the permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Management in Ranchi on June 7, 2023. In the presence of the Director, Prof. Deepak Kumar Srivastava, Mr. Didier Talpain spoke with Institute staff and students. He claimed that this was his first time visiting Jharkhand.

The Consul General underlined during the opening remarks the cooperation and Memorandums of Understanding that the French government hopes to establish with various Indian institutions. He stressed the MoUs that three French business schools already have with IIM Ranchi, which has hosted exchange students in the past.

With the Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, serving as the guest of honour at the Bastille Day celebrations in Paris later this year, Mr. Talpain concentrated on the strong Indo-French cooperation at the government level. Prof. Srivastava focused on the cultural facets of the academic member exchange between the two countries.

Now, IIM Ranchi is prepared to welcome foreign faculty, he hopes that French professors would bring research collaboration in addition to classroom teaching and collaborative aid to PhD students. The Director further mentioned that IIM Ranchi has been exploring prospective dual degree programmes in collaboration with business institutions from France.

Prof. Srivastava responded to the Consul General's inquiry on teaching and promoting the French language at IIM Ranchi by pointing out that the students there already take a course in the language. IIM students seem to prioritise learning French above all other foreign languages.
