New Delhi: The flagship postgraduate degree in management offered by the Indian Institute of Management (PGP/MBA class of 2023–25) welcomed 380 new students. In a single academic year, more than 300 students will be admitted for the first time to the IIMV's PGP curriculum.

The number of students at the top business school has quadrupled over the last four years, going from 123 in 2019 to 380 this academic year. Students from science streams came in second, making up 10% of the entire batch, while engineering and technology graduates continued to dominate the class of 2023–25, making up 70% of the overall cohort.

The new class of students has 39% more female students than any other batch in recent IIMV history. Dr. Pushp Kumar Joshi, chairman and managing director of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), attended the MBA batch's inauguration on Tuesday in Visakhapatnam as a distinguished guest. Additionally, the fifth batch of PhD applicants was introduced at the time.

PGP Intake In The Last Five Years

Year Number of Students
2019 123
2020 153
2021 196
2022 290
2023 380

Dr. Joshi proposed the students make a distinction between knowledge and information in his opening talk. "Learning for the sake of learning is useless unless it is put to use. You've repeatedly demonstrated that you have a higher IQ. However, it is insufficient for a successful professional career.

Equivalent emotional intelligence would prove to be a crucial skill. You should increase your SQ (spiritual quotient) in addition to your IQ and EQ. This has something more profound than religion to do with it.

Finding your noble purpose in life, your life's goals, and who you want to become are all important, stated Dr. Joshi in his talk to the students. He emphasised the importance of teaching students the art of questioning in order to broaden their horizons.

The HPCL CMD advised the students to make a list of things they shouldn't do in addition to their to-do list. "The most crucial component of discipline is understanding what to avoid doing. According to Dr. Joshi, there should be a longer list of things to avoid doing. In addition, he gave the pupils tips on how to avoid distractions like social media.

IIMV Director Prof. M Chandrasekhar told the students that discipline will be the link between their aspirations and their successes. Prof. Chandrasekhar stated that if you want to have a great career, you must have uncommon and important skills (he cited author Cal Newport from the book "So Good They Can't Ignore You"). In this distracted atmosphere, you must be able to take guilt-free breaks from gadgets.

Your FOMO (fear of missing out) should be replaced with JOMO (joy of missing out), according to the professor. He discussed the achievements of the institute since its establishment in 2015. On this occasion, speakers were Prof. Milan Kumar, chair of the IIMV admissions committee, PGP chair Prof. PRS Sarma, Prof. B Srirangacharyulu, Prof. Saroj Kumar Pani, dean of administration Prof. M Anuradha, and others.
