IISER Bhopal Organises Science Summer Outreach Camp

New Delhi: A summer outreach camp on the role of science in society was organised starting on May 15, 2023 by the Centre for Science and Society (CS2) of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal. The camp covered perspectives from the humanities and social sciences.

As per IISER Bhopal, around 130 kids from classes 9, 10, and 11 from institutions across the nation attended the camp. 17 of them were chosen from the CM Rise Schools in Madhya Pradesh. The camp covered subjects like engineering and the natural sciences. It featured lectures, discussions, as well as practical lab work and demonstrations.

Students had the chance to interact with their seniors and took part in events including painting competitions, quizzes, open mic nights, and sporting events. As a conclusion Siva Umapathy, director, IISER Bhopal, said, “The IISERs were established with the intention of giving Indian students access to top-tier science education.

The Institutes carry out research in a number of cutting-edge scientific and technological fields. This camp's goals are to encourage kids to pursue careers in science and technology and to provide them the chance to engage with renowned researchers and scientists. By giving school children these platforms, we can help them explore the options at hand and study and comprehend science in a fun and engaging way”.

Raghuvir Singh Tomar, head of centre for science and society, IISER Bhopal, said, “We have been conducting this activity for the past seven years, student feedback is something that motivates us to constantly improve and strive to offer the finest learning environment. I hope the faculty's knowledge and experience are immensely helpful to the students”.
