IIT Madras and Redington to Establish Chair in Logistics, Supply Chain Management

New Delhi: IIT Madras has partnered with Redington to establish the ‘R Srinivasan International Visiting Chair’ to advance logistics and supply chain management research. The chair is named after the Founder of Redington Group, R Srinivasan.

This initiative aims to attract experts worldwide to collaborate with faculty and researchers at Indian Institute of Technology Madras. Director of IIT Madras, V Kamakoti, and Chairman of Redington Limited, J Ramachandran signed the agreement on February 9, 2024.

The ceremony witnessed guests including VS Hariharan, CEO of Redington, and Vasudha Narasimhan, Vice President of IIT Madras with faculty members and researchers.

Speaking on the occasion, R Srinivasan, founder of Redington Group said that the supply chain is the subject of serious study. Around 7 to 10% of the total cost of India is constituted by the supply chain.

He added, “Post-COVID, and currently because of the various geo-political crises, the globalization of supply chains is under threat. The cost-effectiveness of various countries in the supply chain is giving way to acquiring as many resources as possible due to security issues.”

Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, said, “Supply Chain is becoming a very important aspect. A deep analysis of how a supply chain works is essential if we are to ascertain if a product will be delivered at a specific time during a crisis, among other things.”

He further added, “IIT Madras has several innovations to its credit with the IIT Madras Incubation Cell and the IIT Madras Research Park being well known in the industry. Hence, this institute is most apt to set up this Chair.”
