New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has organised a national workshop on Next Generation Laser Technologies to celebrate 50 impactful years of its Office of Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (IC&SR) on May 02, 2023.
As per IIT Madras, the workshop was hosted to bring together specialists and experts from across the nation on the same platform where they can share their ideas on how India can advance in the field of laser systems and develop the technology domestically.
The workshop was managed and organised by the IIT Madras Department of Electrical Engineering and the DRDO Industry Academia - Ramanujan Centre of Excellence (DIA-RCoE).
To achieve the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat, the workshop creates an approach for futuristic development through panel discussions among professors, industry experts, scientists and researchers on the development of technology and systems in defence services.
Speaking on this occasion, Director General (Technology Management), DRDO Mr Haribabu Srivastava said, “The speed with which other countries are moving forward in this technology is tremendous and we need to move fast as well and reduce the gap between India and rest of the world”.
Adding to the statement, Professor V Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, said, “We need to establish a ‘Defence Incubator’ that will develop technologies not only for the strategic sectors but will also have civilian uses”.
“The civilian applications will lead to commercialisation, which will generate funds to ensure the sustainability of the products being developed. ‘Atmanirbhar’ can be achieved only when defence sector products have a civilian component as well”, he added.
In addition to this, Professors from top IITs in India such as IIT Mandi, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, IISc Bengaluru and IIT Madras spoke on this occasion and shared their ideas on the topics of laser technology with the participants.
