IIT Madras State-Of-The-Art Research facility Inaugurated on Discovery Campus

New Delhi: The NTC PWC-Discovery Campus of IIT Madras was officially opened by Shri. Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon'ble Union Minister, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and AYUSH, Government of India on April 24, 2023.

The director of IIT Madras, V Kamakoti and other administrators attended the event.

According to a statement from IIT Madras, the "Discovery campus" was recently established by the institute and it is housed on 163 acres in Thaiyur, around 36 kilometres from the institute's main campus.

There is a cutting-edge independent research institution, along with dorms for research fellows and scholars. NTC PWC researchers gave a demonstration of the shallow wave basin apparatus and gave a rundown of the unique studies being carried out at the research facility before minister Sonowal.

At the event the Minister Sonowal said, "This centre works as a unique vibrant centre for students, industry and academicians in the area of sediment transportation, navigation, dredging and siltation, port and coastal engineering among all the other areas".

In addition, Sonowal stated, "More than 100 projects and products worth INR 200 crores have been developed and put into operation at important ports, waterways, atomic energy, and many other PSUs and state agencies".

The goal of the NTC PWC is to develop a skilled labour pool with cutting-edge theoretical and practical knowledge, self-sufficiency in providing immediate solutions through scientific research, and a technical arm capable of identifying and resolving complex issues.

Director of IIT Madras Kamakoti stated, "We are dedicated to serving the country. Around INR 1,500 crores in foreign exchange savings have been reported by NTC PWC over the past five years, thanks to domestic technology. This is one of the few such institutions in India where all of the projects for translational development and research related to the naval industry are being deployed in the real world”.
