The NCM (National Commission for Minorities) has requested the education ministry to issue guidelines that will permit Sikh candidates appearing for JEE Main 2025 to wear the Kara and Kirpan during the examination. This request was issued by the chairman of NCM Iqbal Singh Lalpura.

The NCM official notice read "The ministry is requested to issue guidelines for Sikh candidates appearing for JEE Mains 2025, allowing them to wear their religious articles of faith during the exams while ensuring compliance with the necessary procedures".

The JEE Main 2025 session 2 exam is scheduled to be held from April 1 to 8, 2025. NCM raised this request keeping Article 25 of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees the right to freely profess, practice, and propagate religion. The commission pointed out that wearing the Kirpan is a fundamental right of the Sikh community.
