Maharashtra Cabinet Approves Establishment of Six Nursing Colleges with 100 Seats

New Delhi: The Maharashtra Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has approved the establishment of six new government nursing colleges. These institutions will be affiliated with existing Government Medical Colleges in Jalgaon, Latur, Baramati, Sangli (Miraj), Nandurbar, and Gondia, accommodating 100 students each. 

The effort between the state and central governments to establish government nursing colleges aims to enhance Maharashtra's healthcare infrastructure, education, and healthcare sector. This initiative is a practical approach to address the evolving healthcare landscape and contribute to people's overall well-being.

Funds Allocated for Nursing Colleges

As per Maharashtra Cabinet, this initiative aims to combat infectious diseases and encourage the government to implement substantial changes in the paramedical curriculum. 

The estimated cost for the establishment of new nursing colleges in Maharashtra in the first four years is set at INR 173.8 crore, with an annual allocation of approximately INR 14 crore from the fifth year onward

Additionally, an approved budget of INR 32.9 crore has been allocated for construction, furniture, machinery, manpower, and daily recurring expenses for each college. The approximate cost and recurring expenditure for establishing nursing colleges in Jalgaon, Latur, Baramati, and Sangli (Miraj) is approximately INR 107.9 crore.

The Central Government contributes 60% of the funds through the 'Augmenting Nursing Education - Establishment of New Colleges of Nursing in Co-location with Medical Colleges' scheme, while the state government will supply the remaining funds. 

A 60% contribution from both entities is essential for establishing nursing colleges in Nandurbar and Gondia, Maharashtra. These two colleges will receive an additional INR 10 crore each.
