Ministry of Education Reconstitutes JAB to Conduct JEE Main, Advanced Smoothly; Check Details Here

New Delhi: The Ministry of Education has reconstructed the board administration and structure of JEE Apex Board (JAB) for admission to UG engineering programs in ITs, NITS, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs). 

The MoE has released a notification on October 18, 2023, regarding the change in the format and structure of JAB. 

As per the notification released, “The NTA will manage all information technology related (software) support and back-end activities for pre and post-examination work, including online submission of application forms. “NTA may seek support from NIC/C-DAC as and when required,”

Professor SK Jain, VC of BHU has been appointed as the chairperson of JAB. Directors of IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT Madras, NIT Rourkela, NIT Surathkal, IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT (PPP} Lucknow, IIITM Gwalior, representatives of state government of Madhya Pradesh, Assam /Manipur, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab Engineering College, Chairman of CBSE, Director General of NIC, NTA and C-DAC, and the Additional Secretary/ Joint Secretary (TE) of MoE have been appointed as members.

Mentioning the Term of Reference, the official notification reads, “The JAB would have a permanent secretariat which would be provided by the National Testing Agency (NTA). JAB would be assisted by the JEE Interface Group comprising five members drawn from NTA, IITs, and a senior representative of Indian Statistical Institutes (ISI) nominated by the Joint Apex Board,”

“NTA will provide the administrative and logistic support for the conduct of JEE (Main) across the country. The permanent secretariat of the JAB, housed in the NTA, will use the existing infrastructure, surplus of financial resources accumulated since the creation of the first JAB, and the manpower being contributed by the present JEE (Main) unit, with a small number of posts created as per Cabinet/ CEE approval, if required, including that of the Executive Director, based on the actual requirement,” the notice added.

Key Points of JEE Apex Board Reconstruction

We have listed the key points of the JEE Apex Board Reconstruction made by the Ministry of Education.

• The JAB Committee will now be the final authority for setting up the policies, rules, and regulations on how to conduct the JEE Main exam. It will also work with the JEE Advanced conducting committee for a better and smoother exam experience.
• NTA will provide administrative and logistic support for the conduct of JEE (Main) across the country.
• The JAB of the IIT System will continue to assume responsibility for the conduct of JEE Advanced.
• The NIC / C-DAC will help in all information technology-related (software) support. and back-end activities for pre and post-examination work, including online submission of application forms.
• The transparency processes established by the IT system in JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced) shall be adopted.
