New Delhi: The tie-breaking criteria for NEET 2024 has been altered to match that of the previous year's criteria. The National Testing Agency (NTA) issued a revised NEET 2024 information bulletin just a few days before the closure of the application process. The previous factor of the computerised draw of slots has been substituted with subject-wise accuracy proportion.
Upon the release of the NEET 2024 application form and information bulletin on February 9, 2024, it was observed that changes had been made to the tie-breaking criteria. The revised criteria introduced a computerised draw of lots as the final determinant, replacing the subject-wise accuracy proportion that had been utilised in previous years.
NTA has not provided any reason for it to revise the NEET tie-breaking criteria. Nevertheless, students and stakeholders express satisfaction with this decision as the revised criteria prioritise candidate merit and eliminate the possibility of unfairness associated with the computerised draw of lots, which could disadvantage deserving candidates.
The NEET 2024 application process will start from February 9 to March 16, 2024, with the application correction window available from March 18 to March 20, 2024. The NEET 2024 examination is scheduled for May 5, 2024, with the results to be announced on June 14, 2024. The tie-breaking criteria are invoked when two or more candidates achieve identical scores.
