New Delhi: A collaborative online certificate programme on climate justice is being offered by the National Law University of Delhi and the Law Environment and Development Centre (LEDC) of SOAS University of London.
The programme named "Climate Justice and Climate Law: South-North perspectives" will be in effect from June 26 to July 7, 2023,
May 15, 2023 is the application date for the online certificate programme. The online certificate program is free of cost for all the students.
Candidates who have an UG, PG or a doctorate degree in any field are eligible to apply. The working professionals can also apply for the program.
The certificate programme will accept 30 students. Students from SOAS and NLUD will be given priority for each of the five slots.
As per NLU Delhi, "The course will focus on the confluence between climate justice and climate change law and policy, framed around understanding justice linked equally within and across countries. Differentiation or the notion that equity requires the global North to do more than the global South in addressing climate change, serves as the key axis for understanding climate justice at the international level. At the national level, inequality calls to make sure that the poorest and most disadvantaged populations do not face the brunt of climate change policy.
In order to comprehend climate justice at the national level, this course will focus on India as one important example and emphasise the global South-global North components of the international climate change regime”, according to a release from NLUD.
Experts from both the global North and the global South will participate in the course. It will use a distinctive teaching strategy that combines lectures, in-class activities, independent study, and course work. The official notification further stated that roundtable discussions and interactive chats with experts are a crucial component of the curriculum.
