Earlier, medical students had the option to migrate from one medical college to another in case of a valid reason. However, with the revised regulations, the migration facility has been removed for all medical students.

New Delhi: As per the latest updates, the National Medical Commission has announced that the facility to migrate from one medical college to another offered to medical colleges has now been withdrawn. The recent changes have sparked disappointment among medical students.
Following the new guidelines, the NMC Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) has prohibited the migration of any medical students to other medical colleges under any circumstances.
Earlier, the option was open for students for valid reasons and as per the availability of seats in the requested medical college. However, students were not permitted to change their colleges during the clinical course. Colleges were required to reserve 5% of seats for migration students.
Medical Students Disappointed by Removal of Migration Facility
Medical students and their parents have expressed their disappointment with the revised migration facility, sharing that it will take away the option to pursue medical education from a better college in case of vacancies available.
Sharing her views, B.L. Sujatha Rathod, Director of the Directorate of Medical Education said, "The NMC has restricted the migration through the Graduate Medical Education Regulations-2023. Some parents have requested the State Medical Directorate provide migration facilities for their children. But, NMC does not allow it and we can’t consider it on any ground. We can’t do anything. Students should complete their medical course and internship wherever they get admission".
