New Delhi: As per the latest updates, Odisha's Science and Technology Department is planning a proposal to transform the Institute of Mathematics and Applications (IMA) Bhubaneswar into an autonomous university with academic autonomy.
With this proposal, the Odisha Government aims to improve the infrastructure of the Institute of Mathematics and Applications (IMA) by providing the institutional university status and independence in creating question papers, exams, and result declarations.
The anticipated institution aspires to train experts from multiple fields in mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science, and finance domains. It will also include collaborations with prestigious academic and R&D organisations and a solution to staff and infrastructural issues.
Minister of Public Enterprises of Odisha, Ashok Chandra Panda shared that the state government plans to convert this institution into a university. “The institute should send their recommendations about this matter before we take any such action. We will discuss these recommendations once we receive them,” he added.
Gokulananda Das, Former Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University said “It can also start new PG courses, specializations and departments. The proposed university will provide an industry-academia interface to link students/researchers with industry/market. It can also collaborate with reputed academic and research and development (R&D) organizations in India and abroad for academic interaction”.
Last year, the state government authorised a total of INR 10 Crore for the institute's infrastructure expansion, which included upgrades such as a new library, guest house, staff quarters, director's bungalow, and other campus facilities
