The J&K government announced on June 13, 2023 (Tuesday) that students who were unable to participate in the recently held Common University Entrance Test (CUET) will get admission on the basis of their merit in class 12.

New Delhi: The J&K government declared on June 13, 2023 (Tuesday) that students who were unable to participate in the recently held Common University Entrance Test (CUET) due to the assignment of testing locations outside the Union Territory would have the opportunity to enrol in the courses and colleges of their choice.
Alok Kumar, the principal secretary for education, stated that these applicants would be given a sufficient chance to be admitted to undergraduate programmes in UT colleges depending on their performance in the Class XII examinations.
He asserted that the CUET was a standardized entrance test administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA) with the aim of streamlining the admissions process for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered by universities all across the country, in accordance with the National Education Plan 2020 (NEP 2020).
“Last year, the CUET was conducted by more than 200 universities, including 47 core universities,” he added. Political parties have been criticising the National Testing Agency and the government over the selection of testing locations outside of Jammu and Kashmir. In Jammu, the Apni Party protested.
It recommended that the old system, in which the University of Jammu administered entrance exams to determine admission to universities within its purview, be reinstated. Rattan Lal Gupta, the provincial head of the National Conference, attributed it to government incompetence.
