New Delhi: Indian Institute of Management or IIM Shillong has unveiled the U Tirot Sing Student Residence, in honor of the Legacy of a Meghalayan Freedom Fighter at their campus. The U Tirot Sing Student Residence was launched during a recent ceremony held at IIM Shillong.

According to the statement released by IIM Shillong, it was revealed that Shishir K Bajoria, Chairman of the Board of Governors at IIM Shillong, dedicated the newly constructed student residence to the students. The inaugural program witnessed Bajoria highlighting the significance of naming the residence after the legendary freedom fighter from Meghalaya.

The aim was not only to pay tribute to the remarkable contributions of the freedom fighter but also to ensure that students from across India and other nations are acquainted with his heroic legacy.

Expressing that the institute's focus on sustainability goes beyond the student residence, the Director of IIM Shillong, Prof. DP Goyal, stated that the design of the entire infrastructure of IIM Shillong Umsawli reflects the commitment to sustainability. The aim is to create a campus that promotes eco-consciousness and responsible living.

Highlighting the importance of sustainable infrastructure in today's world to minimize environmental impact and preserve the Earth for future generations, Prof. Goyal also acknowledged the contributions of the architects, stakeholders, and all engineers involved in realizing the vision of sustainable infrastructure.

In addition, he reiterated IIM Shillong's dedication to establishing a sustainable campus that serves as a role model for other institutions.

According to Prof. Goyal, the inclusion of the U Tirot Sing residence has expanded the capacity of IIM Shillong Umsawli campus, now accommodating approximately 700 students.

In contrast, Atul Kulkarni, a Member of the Board of Governors, expressed his gratitude to all the stakeholders involved in the project, which boasts state-of-the-art amenities.

Kulkarni pointed out the importance of providing exceptional infrastructure and facilities to students, enabling their academic and personal growth.

Further, he also highlighted the tranquil environment created by the U Tirot Sing Student Residence, which provides an ideal setting for students to concentrate on their studies.

Moreover, Kulkarni emphasized the significance of acknowledging and honoring the legendary freedom fighter through the naming of the student residence after him.

He mentioned that through this act, the institute not only pays homage to an eminent historical figure but also instills a sense of pride and motivation among the students. It was noted that the U Tirot Sing Student Residence, which consists of three blocks and a central common facility, spans across four floors and offers a total of 216 single occupancy rooms.

A statement regarding the matter stated that the construction of this modern facility was successfully accomplished within a timeframe of two years.

M/s RITES Ltd, the Project Management Consultant, and M/s Som Projects, the contractor, played crucial roles in the realization of this project, the statement said.
