UGC has released a fresh list of 32 fake universities across states and cautioned students about invalid degrees.

UGC Declares 32 Fake Universities in India

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has published a list of 32 fake universities in India for 2026, warning students and parents not to take admission in these institutions. The regulatory body, which functions under the Ministry of Education, stated that these institutions are not recognised under the UGC Act and do not have the authority to award degrees. Any degree issued by them will be invalid for jobs and higher education.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) clarified that these institutions are not approved by the Central or State Government and are operating without legal recognition. Under Sections 2(f) and 3 of the UGC Act, only recognised universities are permitted to award valid degrees.

Since these 32 institutions do not meet the required legal criteria, any degree issued by them will have no legal value for employment, government exams, or higher education. Students taking admission in such universities may face serious problems in the future.

According to the 2026 list released by UGC, Delhi has the highest number of fake universities with 12 institutions. Uttar Pradesh follows with four fake universities, while several other states also have one or two such institutions operating without approval. Here’s the complete list:
