New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched a capacity-building training program for the non-teaching staff in 45 Central Universities. The program focuses on enhancing the skills and capabilities of non-teaching staff. Under this initiative, 5000 employees will be trained in the first phase.
UGC has launched this capacity-building program in association with the Capacity Building Commission to improve standardization and coordination across various civil services in India.
The UGC has also initiated an Annual Capacity Building Plan for its staff, providing behavioral, functional, domain, and technology training. According to the commission, more than 635 UGC employees have completed approximately 5,480 courses.
Highlights of Capacity Building Training by UGC
The training includes various topics, including understanding psychology in workflow, leveraging technology in workflow, comprehending the higher education ecosystem, managing academics, handling establishment matters, looking after finances, and project management.
UGC has urged non-teaching staff members in Central Universities to complete courses in the above areas on the iGOT (Integrated Government Online Training) Mission Karmayogi platform within four months. Upon course completion, Central University employees will receive certificates.
The UGC, in an official statement, stated “Based on UGC's experience in capacity building of its staff, UGC has now decided to expand this program to the Central Universities.”
The union government set up the Capacity Building Commission (CBC) to enhance standardization and coordination across various civil services in the country.
The CBC operates on the 'Mission Karmayogi' framework started by the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT), aiming to improve government employees' skills, knowledge, and abilities.
