West Bengal: Madhyamik Exam 2021 to be Held Timely, HS Can be Postponed by Few Months

West Bengal: West Bengal Council of Higher Education (WBCHSE) is likely to postpone the HS (Class 12th) exam of 2021, while the Class 10 Examination is to be held on time, said officials. 

West Bengal Council of Secondary Education (WBBSE) will conduct the Madhyamik Exam in February 2021. However, West Bengal Council of Higher Education (WBCHSE) will hold HS exams in March.

A senior official of the State Education Department said, "Discussions have started on how to hold the two exams in 2021 as only a few months are left. One suggestion which has come up is to hold the class 10 exams on time while postponing the class 12 exams by a few months".

The State Education Department is discussing to push the dates of class 12th board examination. The syllabus may be converted for class 12th if the examination is put on hold. 

The examinations can be conducted in the month of June for class 12th instead of March 2021. As the admission for the class 11th academic session 2021 is to be held, the class 10th examination is likely to be conducted on time.

The State Education Minister, Partha Chatterjee said, “The syllabus committee is holding discussions. Once they come up with some concrete suggestions it would be placed before the chief minister. She will take the final call. We will ensure that students are not affected in any way".

Meanwhile, this year, a total of 10 Lakh students appeared for the class 10th examination. For the class 12th board examination, 7.6 Lakh students appeared to take the examination. 

The schools of West Bengal are still closed, as the authority is waiting for a green signal from the government. 

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated that from September 5, 2020, schools can be reopened if the coronavirus situation improves in the state. As the cases are still increasing in West Bengal, the schools are still shut till further notice.
