From the 2016 batch, 12+ students have secured internships (a milestone among 1800+ students, while we are only 90):
Several students have also interned at IIMs and DRDO. I mention internships because getting one at DTU is twice as hard as landing a placement. They tell the whole story. Many others don’t want or didn’t prepare for internships since they are research-oriented and have other goals.
IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing offers a rigorous curriculum with a strong focus on high-level mathematics and computer science, making it ideal for those looking to enter tech or finance sectors. The internship opportunities are impressive, especially with quant firms offering lucrative packages, and the overall placement record is stellar, boasting a 93% placement rate last year. In contrast, DTU's B.Tech in Information Technology, while also good, tends to have a slightly broader focus without the same level of specialization that IIT Delhi provides.
The campus life at both is vibrant, but IIT Delhi's facilities and faculty, with many professors holding advanced degrees from top universities, give it an edge. Personally, I'd choose IIT Delhi for its exceptional placement opportunities and academic rigor, especially if you're passionate about mathematics and computing. If you're leaning more toward a general IT career, DTU could still be a solid choice.
DTU is definitely better than the new IITs when it comes to placement opportunities and alumni network. The only area where it falls short is in MoUs with foreign universities and the “IIT tag.”
However, if you're deciding between a core branch at the established IIT Delhi and a computing branch at DTU, I would still recommend IIT Delhi without any hesitation. You can access the necessary computing resources from anywhere and still sit for placements in major IT firms.
When comparing branches like Textile at IIT Delhi versus computing at DTU, the choice is clear: go for DTU!
Always weigh your options carefully. Make sure to check if IITs allow students from core branches to sit for IT firm placements.
IIT Delhi’s B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing really stands out for placements, especially in high-paying sectors like finance and quant firms, with top packages going up to 4 crores from companies like Jane Street. The rigorous curriculum ensures a deep understanding of both math and computer science, making students highly desirable. On the other hand, DTU’s B.Tech in Information Technology likely offers decent opportunities but may not match the elite companies and packages available to IIT Delhi students. If you're aiming for the highest-paying roles and have a passion for mathematics, IIT Delhi is the way to go; if you prefer a more balanced tech approach and a slightly easier workload, DTU could be a good fit.
Hello! I was also torn between the two options. Honestly, I think I made the right choice since I hadn't touched coding before starting college.
If I were in your shoes, I would definitely choose DTU over IIT Delhi because:
